57. Stowe, Vermont
Looking to visit one of the most beautiful states in New England? For the quintessential VT experience, you’ll want to check out Stowe, a small mountain town in the northern part of the state.
- In Stowe, the fun continues year-round with skiing in the winter, hiking in the spring and summer, and chasing the fall colors in the autumn. It’s also a great place for apple picking in the fall!
- It won’t be hard to find Austrian-style restaurants (and lodging), as this was the town where the Von Trapp Family settled (any Sound of Music fans here?!).
- You’ll want to experience the farm-to-table-dining scene, which is among the best in the country.

58. Newport, Rhode Island
A New England or East Coast road trip wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Newport.
This coastal city is known for its Gilded Age mansions and miles of epic coastline. The Breakers Mansion is the most iconic landmark of all, but countless other estates deserve a visit.
Newport also has the largest collection of colonial-era homes in the US. This place brims with seaside charm and historical treasures, so be sure to spend at least a weekend soaking in all of it.
History lovers will love a weekend getaway in Newport. Beach lovers will, too. In addition to being a top spot in Rhode Island, it’s easily one of the must see places in the USA.
59. Cape Cod, Massachusetts
A unique vacationland in Massachusetts, Cape Cod is known for its beautiful beaches, quaint fishing towns, top-notch whale watching, and fresh seafood, among other cool things. This peninsula is one of the best places to visit in the US, hands down.
Cape Cod is big and small at the same time. It’s a place you’ll want to salivate over slowly in order to fully experience the coastal charm. And don’t forget to try the clams, oysters, and lobster rolls, too!
- It’s a very popular summer destination, but it’s also worth visiting Cape Cod in the fall when the leaves change color and the crowds are gone.
- Wintertime is also a great time to visit if you prefer fewer crowds and cheaper hotel prices!

The White Mountains is one of the top places to visit in New Hampshire, featuring dramatic mountains, pristine lakes, and endless hiking trails. My favorite time to visit is during the fall when the mountains come alive with vibrant colors, but you can’t go wrong any time of year.
- Consider getting a drink at the Omni Mount Washington Resort, one of the coolest stays in New England.
- Don’t miss the hiking in Crawford Notch and shopping in North Conway.
- For outdoor lovers, the White Mountains of NH are among the most exotic places in the US.

Reasons to Travel Across the United States
I’ve crisscrossed this nation, visiting over 40 states and 30 national parks – exploring its hidden gems and lesser-known wonders. The real magic of the US isn’t just in its postcard-perfect sights. It’s in the unexpected moments and places that don’t always make the guidebooks.
Here are a few reasons I love traveling and think everyone should experience more of the US:
- Whether it’s a secret beach in Oregon or a quirky small town in the Midwest, America is brimming with cool, unique spots that redefine the travel experience.
- Lose yourself in the buzzing streets of New York City, where dreams are born and skyscrapers touch the clouds.
- Experience the laid-back vibes of San Francisco, where the Golden Gate Bridge stands proud amid mystical fog.
For all these reasons, the US is a prime location for road trips. What better way to spend this winter, spring, summer, and fall than by road-tripping to these must-see places? The best vacation spots in the US are all within driving distance of major airports.
Tips in Finding Cheap Airfare When Travelling Across the US
For the past 3 years, I’ve used Scott’s Cheap Flights (now called Going) to find cheap flights. All you have to do is enter your home airport and where you want to go. From there, they’ll send mistake fares and other cheap flight deals to your inbox.
The best part? It’s 100% free! This year alone, I’ve saved thousands of dollars thanks to their email alerts.
This includes, most recently, a $175 roundtrip fare from Boston to San Diego! On average, I save about $200 roundtrip on domestic flights.
There’s a free and a premium version – the free one has pretty much everything you’ll need. However, if you travel a lot, it’s worth upgrading to the paid version for $49 per year. You’ll likely get your money back after buying just one airline ticket!
I recommend signing up for the free trial to try it for yourself. Use my coupon code JON20 to save 20% on your subscription!
