The Church Mountain A-Frame Cabin sits among cedar trees in the Cascade West area outside Maple Falls, Washington, with Church Mountain filling the windows from the bed. The huge upper loft functions as an open master with a new king and full bed, and downstairs you get a modern kitchen with a breakfast bar and generous storage. Vaulted tongue-and-groove ceilings and clear cedar trim give the interior warmth, with reclaimed corrugated metal accents pulled from an old barn.
A classic wood-burning stove heats the dining and living room, and you can watch the peaks from the same seat. The covered deck is secluded and faces the trees, there’s a firepit below, and green space sits right next door. Much of the furniture (the coffee table, firewood holder, deck table, and king bed platform) was custom built by a local artisan from local materials, and I’d happily lose an entire morning out on that deck with coffee and nowhere to be.
Silver Lake is a 7-minute drive, the Glacier Public Service Center for Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest is 11 minutes, and the Heliotrope Ridge Trailhead is 13. Mt. Baker Ski Area is minutes up the road, and groceries, restaurants, bars, and the Mt. Baker Visitor Center are all within walking distance. Bellingham International Airport is 49 minutes by car, and one practical note before you book, the Wi-Fi can be spotty since the town has a single provider.

Paneled walls, heavy woodwork, and a round entry door carry the old-world look through the whole space, and the bathroom splits into a dedicated shower room and a separate toilet room with a sink.
Outside, a pergola with seating sits in a secluded garden beside a koi pond fed by a small waterfall, and there’s a stone patio with a bench a few steps away. The property covers 16 rolling acres with a creek, a fire pit, and over a mile of hiking trails you can walk straight from the door. Coffee under that pergola with the waterfall going is my favorite kind of slow morning, and the hosts leave complimentary snacks plus a no-checkout-chores policy.
Guests have run of the acreage, though the hosts ask you to skip the area behind the hobbit house, stay off its roof, and keep out of the animal enclosures. This is a live farm with goats, chickens, cats, and a rescue dog, and the chicken house sits about 100 feet away, which means a rooster crowing at odd hours and the occasional day of mowing or brush work. Two things to settle before booking: the toilet is a composting model that uses no water, and occupancy caps at two adults with no children, infants, or visitors allowed on the property.
