If you’ve ever dreamed of renting an actual castle for your crew, Glowe Castle in Friedland is your answer. This waterfront fortress sleeps 22 people across 11 bedrooms and has been featured on German TV shows, so you know it photographs beautifully.
The setup is epic for big groups: multiple king bedrooms, dining areas that can handle your entire party, plus a sauna and hot tub overlooking the water. They actually allow weddings and events here (up to 22 people), making it one of the few castles where you can legally throw the party of your dreams. The kitchen islands and separate dining spaces mean meal prep doesn’t turn into chaos.

Former Moated Castle is a 70-square-meter apartment set inside a moated castle dating to 1276, in Kornburg on the southern edge of Nuremberg. The bedroom has a double bed and walnut-veneered solid wood furniture, and up to two more beds can be set up in a niche off the living room, where a long leather corner sofa faces the satellite TV. The kitchen corner has a four-plate glass ceramic cooktop, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, coffee machine, and kettle, with a large oak table in the dining area for meals.
The lawn down in the moat is where I’d spend the afternoon, stretched out on a deck chair under the fruit trees with room left over for badminton. Barbecue facilities and a firepit are on site, and the courtyard stays cool when the temperature climbs. Inside the building there’s a medical massage practice that also offers heat treatment with natural bog or red light, which is an unusual thing to find one floor from your bed.
The apartment sits 7 km south of the exhibition center and 12.5 km from the Nuremberg city center, with a bus stop five minutes away on foot. NürnbergMesse and the Nürnberg Convention Center are both a 9-minute drive, Zeppelin and March Fields is 12 minutes, and Nuremberg Airport is 29. Two bakers and two butchers are within a 5-minute walk in town along with a café and four restaurants, one of them a sports restaurant, and the nightly rate includes all fees with parking on site.

Here’s something you don’t see every day: a 240-square-meter apartment carved into Goslar’s medieval defensive tower, complete with 6.5-meter-thick walls that make you feel like royalty. The Burgkaiser apartment occupies an entire floor of the Zwinger, part of the original city fortifications.
This place sleeps 14 across five bedrooms tucked into former restaurant niches, each with its own TV and views of the ancient ramparts or neighboring ponds. The central living area features a bar, massive dining table, and cozy fireplace, while three full bathrooms prevent morning chaos.
December visitors get front-row seats to the Goslar Christmas Market just a 6-minute walk away. Luxury Chalet with Pool, Home Cinema, Fitness, Sauna is a three-bedroom chalet in the mountains at Grainau, in Bavaria’s Garmisch-Partenkirchen district. It sleeps six across three bedrooms and four bathrooms, with rooms opening onto balconies, smart TVs in the guestrooms, and bathrobes and hair dryers in the baths. The kitchen has a refrigerator, stovetop, cookware, and a separate dining area, and the chalet has fireplaces and air conditioning.
The private outdoor pool is the headline feature, backed by a hot tub, a sauna, a fitness center, and a home cinema. There’s a garden and a patio outside, laundry facilities and onsite parking, plus Wi-Fi at 250+ Mbps and desks and safes if you’re working part of the trip. I’d happily let a snowy afternoon go by moving between the sauna and the fireplace.
Zugspitze Ski Resort is an 11-minute walk (1.0 km) and the Eibsee-Seilbahn cable car is 19 minutes on foot (1.6 km), with Eibsee a 2-minute drive. Tennissportparadies Grainau-Zugspitze is 1 minute by car, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen Ski Resort is 16 minutes (9.4 km). seeRestaurant EIBSEE Pavillon is a 1-minute drive and Summit Café is 7, and Untergrainau Station is 5 minutes away if you’d rather leave the car parked. Ferienhäuser Alpenglück House Plattenbichl is a 155-square-meter family house in traditional Alpine style, built new in 2019 in Oberstdorf. The three bedrooms each have a double bed and an LED flat TV, with two more rooms holding a sofa bed apiece for a total of six to eight people. The open kitchen has modern appliances, the living area has a sofa, TV, and stereo, and there’s a fireplace for evenings in.
The sauna house sits out in the garden, which is a nicer setup than the usual basement cabin. Two bathrooms with underfloor heating, two showers, and a guest toilet on the ground floor mean nobody queues after a day on the mountain, and the balcony and terrace both catch the sun. There’s a large double garage plus a dedicated ski and bike room, and I’d take that over hauling gear up a staircase every time.
Oberstdorf Ski Resort and Nebelhorn are both a 1-minute walk, with Erdinger Arena 2 minutes on foot and the Nebelhornbahn 1 Cable Car at 11 minutes (1.0 km). FlyZone is a 9-minute walk, and Zum Wilde Männle, Trettachstüble, and Oberstdorfer Dampfbierbrauerei are all 13 to 14 minutes away by foot. Oberstdorf Station is a 14-minute walk, so you can reach the house by train and leave the car at home.
