You still get hot water and a walk-in shower under a clear ceiling, though the Wi-Fi is too slow to rely on for video calls.
Screen walls give you a 180-degree view of the lake and woods, and the cove has no public boat access, which keeps the water calm for the 2 kayaks and 2 paddleboards the hosts provide. When fall evenings turn cool, heavy curtains close off the screens and a gas fireplace switches on by remote, with a small space heater and extra blankets as backup. I’d happily spend a whole afternoon on the porch swing, which has a memory foam mattress and doubles as a third bed.

You can drop an inner tube in and float down to the lake, and the association beach and dock are steps away, with kayaks, a paddle board, and a pedal boat all provided. I’d happily spend a crisp fall evening at that fire pit, keeping an eye out for the eagles and herons the host says visit the water.
Downtown Windham is a few minutes’ drive for shopping and dinner, and Portland is 16 miles away (about 30 minutes by car). Guests have had trouble finding Ubers and Lyfts out here, and a rental car makes trips into the city far easier. Private Lake House, Firepit & Amazing Sunset Views is a recently renovated four-bedroom home on Canton Lake (officially Lake Anasagunticook) in the small town of Canton. Three bedrooms have queen beds and the fourth has two doubles, with a large full bath featuring two shower heads and a double vanity, plus a half bath. The big open kitchen has new appliances and a dishwasher, and coffee drinkers get a grinder and a machine with a Keurig attachment.
You get over 200 feet of private shoreline here, with a sandy beach that slopes gently into the water and a 40-foot dock with its own small patio and ladder. Kayaks and a pedal boat are ready to go, there’s a private boat ramp and an outdoor shower, and the house looks straight across to the lighthouse the lake is known for. I’d happily start each morning with coffee on the dock and end each night at the lakeside fire pit, listening for loons as the sun sets to the west.
Sunday River is 45 minutes away, and the host notes smaller local ski mountains are even closer. Snowmobilers can reach nearby trails including ITS 89, and in winter guests can skate on Canton Lake right outside the front door. The house is the last one on a private dirt road with plenty of driveway parking, and there’s one exterior camera covering the driveway (none inside).
