Wellness Travel

Wellness Travel Featured Image

I’ve spent the past few years chasing more than just passport stamps…I’ve been chasing presence, clarity, and real inner peace. For me, wellness travel isn’t about green juice and yoga mats (though those are great) – it’s about seeking experiences that restore you from the inside out.

Whether it’s plunging into an icy fjord in Iceland, sweating it out in a cedar sauna in the Alps, or joining a breathwork circle on a jungle hillside in Costa Rica, I live for this kind of travel.

Wellness tourism is for all types of travelers

These trends in wellness tourism may surprise you…

What is wellness travel?

Wellness travel is not just a buzzword; it’s a growing trend that has been gaining popularity in recent years. But what exactly is wellness travel, you ask?

At its core, wellness travel is about taking a trip with the intention of improving your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It’s about incorporating healthy activities, nutritious food, and relaxation into your travel experience, all while exploring new destinations and cultures.

History of wellness tourism

The history of wellness travel can be traced back centuries to ancient cultures that saw the benefits of traveling to hot springs, natural springs, and other mineral-rich waters for their healing properties. In the 19th century, the concept of “taking the cure” at mineral spas became popular in Europe and North America, with people traveling to destinations like Baden-Baden in Germany and Saratoga Springs in New York to soak in the therapeutic waters.

Today, wellness travel has expanded beyond just mineral spas to include a wide range of activities. This includes cold plunges and saunas, yoga and meditation, hiking and outdoor activities, and healthy eating and nutrition. And it’s not just about physical health. Wellness travel also emphasizes mental and emotional well-being, with activities like mindfulness and self-reflection.

Why wellness tourism is so popular right now

But why is wellness travel important? In today’s fast-paced world, it’s all too easy to neglect our health and well-being in favor of work, social obligations, and other stressors. Wellness travel offers a way to disconnect from the chaos of everyday life and focus on ourselves. It’s a chance to recharge our batteries, prioritize our health, and come back feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

So if you’re looking for a way to prioritize your health and well-being while still indulging your wanderlust, wellness travel might just be the perfect fit for you.

Choosing a wellness destination

Choosing a wellness place to visit can be both exciting and overwhelming. With so many options to choose from, how do you know where to go for the ultimate wellness experience? Here are some tips to help you choose the perfect wellness destination for your needs:

1. Consider your goals

What are you hoping to get out of your wellness getaway? Are you looking to de-stress, improve your fitness, or simply relax and unwind? Understanding your goals will help you narrow down your options and find a destination that caters to your needs.

2. Research different types of wellness retreats

There are countless types of wellness retreats, from yoga and meditation retreats to outdoor adventure retreats. Each type of retreat offers different benefits, so do your research and find the one that’s right for you.

3. Check out the location

The location of your wellness retreat can have a big impact on your experience. Are you looking for a secluded mountain retreat or a beachfront oasis? Consider the surroundings and amenities of each location to ensure you choose a destination that suits your preferences. Personally, I find that destinations like Costa Rica, Bali, and Mexico have some of the best wellness retreat centers.

4. Read reviews

Reviews from other travelers can provide valuable insights into the quality of a wellness destination. Look for reviews that highlight the specific aspects of the retreat that are important to you, such as the quality of the yoga instruction or the variety of healthy food options.

5. Consider your budget

Wellness retreats can vary greatly in price, so it’s important to set a budget and find a destination that fits within your means. Keep in mind that while some retreats may seem expensive at first glance, they often include meals, accommodations, and activities, making them a good value overall.

When choosing a wellness destination, remember that the goal is to prioritize your health and well-being. By taking the time to research and choose the right destination, you can ensure that you have an unforgettable wellness experience that leaves you feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to take on the world.

3. Costa Rica

With its tropical rainforests, stunning beaches, and commitment to sustainability, Costa Rica is a popular destination for eco-friendly wellness travel. Visitors can enjoy everything from surfing and hiking to yoga and meditation.

4. Chiang Mai, Thailand

This bustling city in northern Thailand is a hub for wellness tourism. It offers everything from Thai massage and acupuncture to meditation and yoga classes. Visitors can also explore the city’s ancient temples and rich cultural heritage.

5. Ibiza, Spain

Known for its legendary nightlife, Ibiza is also home to a thriving wellness scene. Visitors can enjoy yoga classes, holistic therapies, and healthy eating options, as well as beautiful beaches and stunning sunsets.

These are just a few examples of the many popular wellness travel destinations around the world. Whether you’re looking to escape to a secluded mountain retreat or soak up the sun on a tropical beach, there’s a wellness destination out there waiting for you. So why not indulge in some self-care and explore the world at the same time?

Future of wellness travel

Wellness travel is a growing trend that emphasizes prioritizing your health and well-being while traveling. Whether you’re looking to improve your fitness, reduce stress, or simply relax and unwind, there’s a wellness experience out there for you.

Looking towards the future, there are several interesting trends emerging in the wellness travel industry. One of these is a focus on mental health, with more retreats offering activities like mindfulness and self-reflection. Another trend is a move towards more sustainable and eco-friendly travel, with a focus on reducing waste and supporting local communities.

Technology is also playing a role in the future of wellness travel, with more retreats offering digital detoxes and opportunities to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature. Virtual wellness experiences are also on the rise, offering people the opportunity to experience wellness activities from the comfort of their own homes.

I’ve attended over 20 wellness retreats around the world, including cold immersion retreats in Iceland, Wim Hof-style adventures in the mountains, and transformational weekends in Sedona. I’ll share the ones that are actually worth it, plus what to expect and how to choose the right retreat for your goals.

🏞️ Spa Resorts & Healing Hotels

From thermal spas in Switzerland to forest hideaways in Vermont, I’ve reviewed unique wellness resorts that combine comfort with deep rejuvenation. Think soaking in hot springs after a hike, falling asleep to the sound of rivers, or detoxing in a salt cave.

❄️ Cold Plunges, Saunas & Healing Modalities

I’ve practiced cold immersion for 4+ years and seek out destinations with outdoor saunas, ice baths, steam rooms, and contrast therapy setups. If you’re curious about the science-backed benefits (and how to get started safely), I’ve got you covered.

🌍 Mindful Destinations

Sometimes a place itself is the medicine. Whether it’s the peaceful lakes of Finland, the slow pace of a Costa Rican surf town, or the energizing nature of Patagonia, I’ll show you destinations designed to reset your nervous system…no itinerary required.

This town was built for Christmas 🎄✨ I’ve seen Sa This town was built for Christmas 🎄✨

I’ve seen Salzburg in summer. I’ve wandered it in the fall. But winter? Winter makes the whole city feel unreal. Walking through the Christmas markets with alpine snow around the cathedral honestly feels like stepping into a story I grew up with...

I was obsessed with The Sound of Music as a kid, so Salzburg already had a hold on me. But December hit different. Roasted chestnuts drifting through the streets. Mulled wine warming your hands. Choirs echoing between baroque domes. Ice skating in the square. So cozy and festive! 🙌

The main Christkindlmarkt sits right beneath Salzburg Cathedral, and it’s one of the oldest Christmas markets in the world…dating back to the 15th century. I love the way the lights spill into every alley from Residenzplatz to Domplatz, and the entire Old Town feels built for this exact season.

My favorite part? Fresh pastries. Handmade ornaments. Warm krapfen doughnuts. The fortress glowing above the rooftops. Everything is walkable, so you can drift between stalls and side streets without losing the vibe for even a second. 🎅

I’ve been to a lot of Christmas markets across Europe, but Salzburg definitely has a cozier, more romantic charm. It’s festive without being chaotic (midweek) and historic without feeling staged.

And if you’re already here, don’t just stop at Salzburg! The city is perfectly placed for other amazing markets like Hellbrunn, Berchtesgaden over the border in Germany, and even Vienna’s famous Christkindlmarkt just a quick train ride away. 🎄

Tag the person you’d freeze your fingers off exploring Christmas markets with 🎄🇦🇹

The Waterfall You Won’t Believe Is Just 30 Minutes The Waterfall You Won’t Believe Is Just 30 Minutes from Portland…

I swung by Multnomah Falls a few years ago, and I still think about it every time I chase waterfalls around the world. I’ve hiked to falls in Iceland, Norway, and beyond, but this one in Oregon blew me away in its own way. 💦

At 620 feet, it’s the tallest waterfall in Oregon and one of the most visited natural sights in the entire Pacific Northwest. 🙌 You feel the power the second you step onto the viewing platform. The upper and lower tiers make it look like something straight out of a fantasy film.

It’s only 30 minutes from Portland, about an hour from Hood River, and roughly 3 hours from places like Bend or Mount St. Helens. Super easy to reach, which makes it a no-brainer stop if you’re doing any kind of Pacific Northwest road trip.

If you’re planning one, add Multnomah Falls to the top of your list. It earns its hype 100%! Who would you drag here without hesitation? 🚗🌬️

    Inside Kazakhstan’s Futuristic Capital…🏙️ Astana Inside Kazakhstan’s Futuristic Capital…🏙️

Astana surprised me. I visited in early September, which is honestly the sweet spot here with warm days, cool nights, and none of the brutal extremes this city is known for. And the extremes are real. As one of the northernmost capitals on Earth, winters can drop to around –40°F, while summers climb into the 90s (–40°C to 38°C). Wild range for a place this modern!

Fun fact: Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world by area, and its capital is still young. The futuristic version of Astana you see today only took shape after it became the capital in 1997. That’s why everything feels so new…bold architecture, glass towers, giant monuments, and these massive open plazas that make you feel like you’re walking through a sci-fi movie set.

Kazakhstan is the richest country in Central Asia, and you feel that wealth here. The Bayterek Tower, the Presidential Palace, the sprawling government district… it all looks incredibly polished. I even stayed in a five-star hotel for a fraction of what it would cost pretty much anywhere in the world ($61/night).

But there’s another side to Astana: it can feel a bit soulless. I visited iconic spots in the middle of the day and saw almost no one…no crowds, barely any tourists, just empty futuristic spaces. Beautiful, but definitely eerie.

In this strange city, you’ve got massive glass pyramids, a giant golden tower shaped like a tree, and a tent-shaped mall the size of a small city. They don’t match the surrounding steppe at all, so it feels almost otherworldly.

Still, if you’re into modern cities, wild weather swings, and experiencing a place that feels unlike anywhere else, Astana deserves a spot on your list.

If you know someone who loves unusual places, send this to them. 🇰🇿🙌 #kazakhstan #astana #travelvlog #honestreview #hiddengems
Last year in Guatemala, this was hands-down one of Last year in Guatemala, this was hands-down one of the highlights of my trip. I based myself in Antigua, which is such a beautiful town, and then signed up for the overnight trek up Acatenango…13,044 feet above sea level and right across from the mighty Fuego. 🌋

We camped near the top, watched Fuego erupt through the night, and pushed for the summit at sunrise. The wildest part? A thunder and lightning storm rolled in while we were up there. Not exactly the safest place to be, but our guides knew the mountain and got us down at the right moment. 😅

Still, standing that close to an active volcano… feeling the ground rumble… watching lava shoot into the sky… it was one of the most incredible moments of my life. A bucket list experience through and through!

Ahhh Bali. While the cold creeps in at home, this Ahhh Bali. While the cold creeps in at home, this place gives you sunshine, fresh air, and that that space you need to think bigger.

What I love most is how effortless it feels to take care of yourself here. Fresh bowls and healthy food everywhere you turn. Modern gyms that make working out fun. Friendly people who are a joy to be around. Beach walks, sunrise yoga, and wild moped rides through the jungle.

It’s one of the best places I know to get clear, reset your health, and sketch out a bigger vision for your life. Back in 2023 I spent three weeks there, and it’s been on my mind ever since.

If you go, check out Canggu for fitness and coworking, Ubud for nature and slow living, and Uluwatu for sunsets that don’t feel real.

Bali is warm, inspiring, and built for people who want more freedom. Can’t wait to go back!

Half-timbered towns, storybook streets, and mountain valleys that don’t look real…that’s the Germany I know and love!

I’ve spent years exploring these spots…places like Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Mittenwald, Würzburg, Nürnberg, Landshut, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Dinkelsbühl, Heidelberg, and Hamburg still feel straight out of a dream. These are the corners of Germany that should absolutely be on your bucket list! Of course, there are many other amazing cities and towns, but this will give you a quick taste 😁

Do it while you’re young 🥾⛰️ Zion hits different Do it while you’re young 🥾⛰️

Zion hits different when your legs still fire on the climbs and your energy feels endless. When you’ve got the energy to push for the ridge, climb the switchbacks, and wade through a river for miles (The Narrows, I’m looking at you! 😁🙌)

I’ve met so many people over the years who told me the same thing: don’t wait. Don’t wait for “someday,” for perfect timing, or for life to slow down. Don’t wait until your knees disagree or life gets heavier. Book the trip. Chase the sunrise. Wear your shoes out on those epic fiery ridges.

And if you’re older reading this, hear me on this too…it’s never too late to see landscapes that change you. But if you’ve got youth on your side right now…this is your sign to use it.

who built a life that looks strong on paper but knows something inside has drifted.

who leads others but hasn’t slowed down long enough to lead himself.

who’s been craving clarity, direction, and a deeper connection to what masculinity actually feels like (not what the world tells you it should be).

The one who feels the pull to step out of the noise and back into nature, both the one around you and the one inside you.

If that’s you, Sweden is calling. 🇸🇪

Six days. A small group of men. A private lake surrounded by deep forest. Wild silence. Cold immersion. Breathwork that rewires your nervous system. Wood-fired sauna. Forest skills. A solo quest with nothing but yourself and the trees. Real food. Real conversations. Real brotherhood.

This is not a break, but a reset. A remembering.

A chance to reclaim the part of you that knows exactly who you are and what you’re here to do.

If you’re ready to slow down, to step into self-leadership with more intention, and to reconnect with the wild masculine in a way that feels grounded, honest, and real…this is your moment.

We’ve still got time. November isn’t over. The year isn’t over. And who you choose to be today shapes everything that comes next.

There’s a specific shade of blue in Greece that do There’s a specific shade of blue in Greece that doesn’t exist anywhere else…🇬🇷

Naxos mornings when the alleys are cool and faintly blue before the sun hits. Paros afternoons with that warm breeze that moves through the white stone. Santorini evenings when the light drops and the island slips into those soft colors everyone comes for. 🌅

Out of the five Greek islands I’ve been to, Paros is my favorite. It hits this perfect middle ground: less touristy than Santorini or Mykonos, but not so quiet that you’re bored. It’s beautiful, upscale in a subtle way, and the vibe there just clicked for me.

These clips are from my trip last year, but I can still remember exactly how the air felt, the slow pace, the quiet. Greece has this way of slowing you down and making you notice everything.

If you’re looking for a place that feels both surreal and grounding at the same time, the Greek islands should definitely be on your radar 🇬🇷👀
