Cady’s Falls Cabin is a treehouse-style cabin perched on a hillside above Kenfield Brook in Morristown, Vermont. It’s five minutes from downtown Morrisville and ten from Stowe, with the Cady’s Falls swimming hole and bike trails right across the brook. The minimalist design and giant glass windows make you feel like you’re sleeping in the canopy.

Inside it’s small and cozy, with a two-burner cooktop, mini-fridge, counter top oven, and drip coffee maker. Coffee and tea are provided, and there’s a hot shower with good pressure. The outdoor setup is ideal for a couples’ fall trip. There’s a hot tub under open sky, a firepit with a picnic table, a gas grill, and a patio for morning coffee. Outside there’s a hot tub, a firepit for marshmallows, and enough deck space to spread out without tripping over each other. I’d use this as a base and spend mornings on the Parkway before coming back to cook together in the evening.

The layout is open plan with a lofted sleeping area (queen bed and twin daybed upstairs, twin daybed downstairs), one bathroom, and a kitchen with modern appliances. Fall is when this place is at its best, with the fireplace lit and the bluff views turning gold. A public sand beach at Isle View Park is steps away.

Newport State Park is a short walk and offers forest trails, hidden beaches, and some of the best stargazing in the Midwest. The pace here is intentionally slow. Make coffee by French press in the morning, listen to the creek from the back patio, and end the day in the wood-fired sauna on the property. This lakefront cabin is right inside Acadia National Park on the shores of Echo Lake, which is about as good a location as you’ll find for a fall stay in Maine. It’s a studio with a king loft, a queen convertible couch, and a fold-out twin, all with memory foam mattresses. The kitchen has a two-burner cooktop, microwave, toaster oven, and granite countertops, and there’s a bathroom with a hot shower plus an outdoor shower in the woods.

You get a private dock, canoe, kayaks, an offshore swim float, a large deck facing the sunset, and a firepit. No motorboats or jet skis are allowed on Echo Lake, so the water stays calm and quiet. I’d spend mornings paddling before the light gets harsh, then hike the Jordan Pond Path (3.5-mile loop, easy) in the afternoon (one of my favorite things to do in Acadia).
