Ever since I started tracking flight deals from Logan (okay, I might be slightly obsessed), I’ve discovered some absolute steals that’ll make your travel dreams possible. But a low airfare is only part of the story: bags, hotels, and airport transfers can change which getaway actually costs less.

From Nashville’s live music venues, where I spent less on flights than a night out in Back Bay, to the volcanic landscapes of the Azores, these 14 destinations give you plenty to compare. Use the shortlist below to find a trip that fits your time and interests, then check flights for your dates. The list is a starting point for your search, not a ranking of today’s lowest fares.

1. Boston to Orlando, FL

Orlando is a familiar winter escape from Boston, especially for families planning a theme-park trip. Parks can dominate the budget, so mix them with lower-cost things to do in Orlando if you want a break from ticketed attractions.

Walt Disney World is the obvious draw, but locals know Universal Studios actually has better rides and shorter lines if you’re past the princess phase. Skip the theme parks entirely? Head to Winter Park for gorgeous gardens and boat tours without a costumed character in sight, or hit Lake Eola Park downtown for local beers and amazing food with actual Orlando residents. Who knew there was life beyond Mickey?

Compare MCO flights from several airlines for the same dates, with the bags and seats your group needs. Then price the parks, airport transfer, and hotel parking. A cheaper flight does not necessarily make a theme-park vacation cheaper, and school-holiday room rates can change the calculation.

2. Boston to Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston is an easy addition for a food-and-history weekend. Start with the old streets around Rainbow Row, walk toward The Battery, and leave time for the City Market. You can build a satisfying short trip around one central base without trying to tour the whole coast.

The budget question is where to sleep. A cheaper hotel outside the historic district can add daily rides or parking charges. Compare the full room-and-transport total with a walkable location, and check CARTA’s free downtown DASH shuttles for trips that fit their routes.

JetBlue and Delta appear on Charleston Airport’s nonstop destination list for Boston. Compare the bags, arrival time, and airport transfer as well as the headline fare. The downtown shuttle is not an airport transfer, and a beach day at Folly Beach needs its own transport plan.

Choose Charleston for a compact weekend of food and wandering. Give it another day if the beach is a priority, rather than squeezing the coast and every downtown sight into a single afternoon.

Nashville is a strong choice for a short music-focused trip from Boston. This place has way more personality than most cities twice its size, with live music literally everywhere and food so good you’ll consider relocating.

Broadway is the famous strip packed with honky-tonks where you can bar-hop through live music venues without paying a single cover charge. Skip the tourist traps and head to East Nashville for killer local restaurants, vintage shops, and bars where actual locals hang out. The Gulch neighborhood has that perfect mix of street art, craft breweries, and boutiques that’ll drain your wallet but fill your Instagram. 

Compare JetBlue, Southwest, and Delta, the Boston operators listed by Nashville’s airport. Check hotel totals for your exact weekend before buying the flight, especially around major concerts and festivals. A central base can also save on rental-car parking; WeGo’s airport bus is another transfer option to compare.

Fort Lauderdale gives this list a Florida beach option without committing to an Orlando theme-park budget. It works as a short escape from Boston: choose a beach or downtown base, settle in, and spend the trip outside instead of building a long driving itinerary.

Walk the Beachfront Promenade, explore Las Olas Boulevard, or follow the Riverwalk through downtown. Those areas offer different stays, so choose the setting you want before sorting hotels by price. A lower room rate farther inland may come with extra trips to the beach.

The flight comparison should start with FLL. Add airport transport and any hotel parking to the fare, and compare the hotel’s actual charges for your dates. If Miami is the real goal, calculate that onward journey separately. Fort Lauderdale can be an alternative arrival point, but it is not a drop-off at your Miami hotel.

This is a good pick for a simple beach weekend or extra days around a cruise. For a longer trip focused on historic streets and island exploring, compare it with San Juan instead.

5. Boston to Washington, DC

Washington, DC earns its place through the cost of the trip after landing. The Smithsonian museums in Washington offer free admission, and a walk along the National Mall toward the Lincoln Memorial can fill a large part of the day. Some museums require free timed-entry passes, so reserve those before planning everything around a particular visit.

For a first trip, keep the itinerary focused: one museum, a monument walk, and time for a neighborhood meal. It is easier on both your feet and your budget than crisscrossing the city to tick off every famous building.

Search Reagan National (DCA) and Dulles (IAD) separately. Metro serves both airports, but the route and journey to your actual hotel differ. City-wide searches can also include Baltimore/Washington (BWI), so price its onward trip separately. Check Amtrak from Boston as well; station access and total travel time can matter more than a small airfare difference.

DC is particularly useful for families and museum-focused travelers who want several substantial activities without paying admission at every stop. That does not make every hotel cheap, so price the room before buying the ticket.

6. Boston to Chicago, Illinois

The Loop gives you that big-city skyline experience with architecture that’ll make you actually stop and look up. Millennium Park has the famous Bean for your obligatory reflection selfie, while the lakefront trail offers 18 miles of views that remind you this isn’t actually an ocean. After a weekend here, you’ll be that annoying person who won’t shut up about how Chicago is actually cooler than New York.

Search O’Hare (ORD) and Midway (MDW) separately. Compare the final fare, arrival time, and your hotel location, rather than assuming one airport always wins. CTA trains connect both airports with downtown, though schedules differ. A central hotel can avoid rental-car and overnight-parking costs.

7. Boston to Montréal, Canada

This is a city where a food-focused trip does not have to mean a restaurant reservation for every meal. Markets and casual stops give you room to spend more on the places you really want to try. Tourisme Montréal is useful for checking what is open and what events fall on your dates.

Search Montréal-Trudeau (YUL) and check the stops carefully: a cheaper connection can consume much of a short weekend. The 747 airport bus ticket includes 24 hours of Zone A transit travel, which can cover more than the airport journey. Compare that transfer and your accommodation with the cost of driving from Boston if several people are sharing the trip.

A nearby city is not automatically a cheap flight. Montréal belongs here as a worthwhile route to compare, especially for a car-free city stay; use your actual fare and group size to decide whether flying wins.

8. Boston to San Juan, Puerto Rico

U.S. citizens do not need a passport for travel between the U.S. mainland and Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands on domestic itineraries. Adults still need TSA-accepted identification; foreign connections or side trips can have different document requirements.

Old San Juan looks like someone dropped a colorful European city onto a Caribbean island, with cobblestone streets and buildings painted in every color imaginable. Condado Beach offers that perfect mix of white sand, clear water, and beachfront bars serving drinks with tiny umbrellas. Just outside the city, El Yunque rainforest lets you hike to waterfalls where you can actually swim, making those sweaty trails completely worth it.

Compare JetBlue and Delta, with baggage included in the total. A San Juan city-and-beach break can work with taxis or rideshare; an El Yunque outing or wider island trip needs a separate transport plan. Rideshare coverage is more limited outside the metro area.

9. Boston to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands

Magens Bay is that beach you see on screensavers but can actually swim at, with powder-white sand and water so clear you’ll think someone Photoshopped it. Charlotte Amalie has duty-free shopping, though it is still worth comparing prices before buying. Ferry over to Water Island to snorkel with sea turtles without fighting through tourist crowds, or hit up Mountain Top for banana daiquiris with views so insane even your terrible phone photos will look professional.

Compare JetBlue with Delta when its seasonal Boston service is available. Price the hotel and airport transfer before booking, especially if you want ferries or day trips to other islands. September and October are within Atlantic hurricane season, so weigh any fall savings against disruption risk and the booking’s cancellation terms.

10. Boston to Cancún, Mexico

Cancún gives readers a different budget comparison: a flight-and-hotel package versus booking the pieces separately. It can suit travelers who want several beach days and a predictable meal plan, but the airfare alone tells you very little about what the vacation will cost.

Start with the exact hotel or resort. The Hotel Zone, downtown Cancún, and properties farther along the Riviera Maya have different transfer needs. Check the meal plan, room taxes or resort charges, and whether airport transport is included in each quote. Compare packages using the same dates, room type, and inclusions.

For a break from the pool, consider Playa Delfines or the Museo Maya de Cancún and the adjacent San Miguelito archaeological site. Check opening days and admission before setting aside the afternoon.

Compare JetBlue and Delta from Boston, then price the transfer to your actual accommodation. Cancún Airport’s transport information is a starting point. A cheaper fall fare also needs to be weighed against hurricane-season disruption and the cancellation terms on both the flight and hotel.

11. Boston to the Azores

The Azores are basically Europe’s best-kept secret that Boston somehow has direct flights to. These Portuguese islands in the middle of the Atlantic bring together volcanic landscapes, green hills, and ocean views.

São Miguel is the main island with crazy volcanic landscapes, neon-blue crater lakes, and hot springs where you can literally cook food in the ground. Ponta Delgada has those charming European vibes with black and white cobblestone streets and plenty of places to try local seafood. Hike around Sete Cidades to see the famous twin lakes (one blue, one green) that look fake in photos but are even more mind-blowing in person. 

Search Boston to Ponta Delgada (PDL) for São Miguel, then compare the airfare with a rental car or guided outings. The Azores Airlines route page is a useful starting point. If you want a second island, budget its onward flight or ferry separately; a ticket to Ponta Delgada does not cover island-hopping.

Lisbon is a stronger fit for a longer break than a rushed weekend. The overnight outbound flight deserves a little breathing room, and the city rewards an itinerary with space for wandering. Explore Alfama, stop at the Santa Luzia viewpoint, and make a separate outing to Belém for the waterfront and Jerónimos Monastery.

Choose a base with useful transit access before committing to the lowest room price. A steep walk with luggage or repeated taxis can erode a saving, and a rental car is unnecessary for many city-focused itineraries. Lisbon Airport has a Metro connection; check the onward route to your accommodation rather than assuming the airport line stops outside it.

Temple Bar is the obvious tourist spot, but walk literally 5 minutes in any direction to find pubs like The Long Hall or Grogan’s where you’ll drink with locals instead of other Americans. Trinity College Library looks fake it’s so beautiful, and the Guinness Storehouse tour includes a pint with the best view in the city. 

Compare Aer Lingus, Delta, and seasonal JetBlue options, including bags and seat fees. Airport buses and free museums and galleries make a car-free break possible, but Dublin’s room prices still belong in your comparison. A low airfare is less useful if your hotel budget doubles.

Grab incredible city views from the Main Tower, then hit Sachsenhausen neighborhood for traditional apple wine taverns where you’ll drink with Germans who’ve been coming to the same spots for decades. 

Compare Lufthansa with seasonal Condor options, checking the actual operating airline and baggage allowance. Frankfurt Airport’s rail connections make an onward trip practical, but add train tickets and any extra hotel night before deciding this is your cheapest way into Germany.
