Let me tell you something about flying from MSP: those deals are out there if you know where to look. After spending way too many hours hunting down flights (and actually taking these trips myself), I’ve found some seriously amazing prices for 2025. Last month I grabbed a $220 roundtrip to Denver, where I spent mornings hiking at Garden of the Gods and afternoons eating my way through the Denver Central Market.

From wandering through Chicago’s Riverwalk (found tickets under $150!) to catching the sunset at San Diego’s Coronado Beach, I’ve discovered some incredible deals. Here are 9 destinations you can actually afford to fly to this year because life’s too short to let expensive flights keep you stuck in Minnesota winters.

Boston is one of my favorite places to fly from MSP, but as a lifelong resident, I may be a little biased.

1. From MSP to Nashville, TN ($188)

The city of Nashville is more than just one of the many cheap flights from Minneapolis. If you’re a country music fan, it’s basically a religious experience! In addition to being home to the Grand Ole Opry, a storied venue famous for broadcasting the longest-running radio broadcast in US history, it’s also the site of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

In addition to being one of the cheapest places to fly from MSP, Nashville is a beautiful city.

Of course, the good times aren’t just in Nashville’s past. If you’re looking for live entertainment, then be sure to visit the row of historic bars that make up Honky Tonk Highway. Sit down, have a drink, and listen to a set from an up-and-coming musician. You never know who will be the next big breakout star.

There’s a lot more to the “Music City” than just music, mind you. In fact, as you fly into Nashville International Airport (BNA), you might be surprised to see a little piece of Greek history down below. Don’t worry, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. There really is a full-scale replica of the Greek Parthenon right in the middle of Centennial Park.

Nashville’s Honky Tonk Highway is heaven on Earth for country music fans.

Other notable attractions include the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere (which houses more than 300 species and also offers fun activities like zip-lining) and the Frist Art Museum, a comprehensive art museum (which hosts touring exhibitions from some of the most prestigious collections in the world). Whether you’re a country fan or not, a vacation in Nashville is sure to be music to your ears.

2. From MSP to San Juan, Puerto Rico ($425)

Want to take advantage of the cheapest direct international flights from MSP? Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) isn’t just a great place to score a cheap flight from Minneapolis. It’s also a gateway to the Caribbean Islands!

Flying to San Juana from MSP is like entering a whole new world of vibrant culture and fascinating history.

One of the best places to visit in Puerto Rico, San Juan is home to many beautiful and ancient historic landmarks, such as the Catedral Basílica Metropolitana de San Juan Bautista, the oldest cathedral in any US-affiliated territory. Another incredible sight worth seeing is Castillo San Cristóbal, a 300-year-old fort that once served as the city’s main entrance.

Close to Castillo San Cristóbal is another ancient fort, the Castillo San Felipe Del Morro. It may be the smaller of the two, but it predates San Cristóbal by about 200 years. Both forts are designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, meaning that they are internationally recognized for their priceless historical value.

While San Juan is one of the cheapest places to fly from MSP, the view from Castillo San Cristóbal is priceless.

After taking a trip back in time, you can get a taste of a very different kind of history at Caribe Hilton, the famous restaurant that serves as the birthplace of every tourist’s favorite beverage, the piña colada. After lunch, enjoy a shopping spree at the beautiful Mall of San Juan, beloved for its diverse array of unique shops and well-furnished common areas decorated with palm trees. In Puerto Rico, even the malls are tropical.

3. From MSP to Boston, MA ($213)

As a Boston resident, I may be biased when I call Beantown one of the best vacation spots in America. If my word isn’t good enough for you, consider this: thanks to the low fees at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), it has some of the cheapest airfare from MSP.

More than just one of the cheapest places to fly from MSP, Boston is a city brimming with beauty.

That’s not all Beantown’s got. Anchored along the harbor, you’ll find the U.S.S. Constitution, a warship built in the 1700s. Today, travelers can tour the ship, while a nearby museum building offers plenty of interactive exhibits and a vast collection of historical artifacts from the ship’s heyday.

If you’re a baseball fan, you can’t afford to skip Fenway Park. This stadium near Kenmore Square is the headquarters of the Boston Red Sox. Originally opened in 1912, it’s the oldest active ballpark in use by the MLB, plus the site of numerous milestones in American sports history. Go, Sox!

Following the markers of the Freedom Trail will lead you to some of Boston’s most historic locations.

Last but not least, no visit would be complete without walking the Freedom Trail. This 2-and-a-half-mile journey passes by no less than 16 historic landmarks. These include such Revolutionary War-era attractions as the Paul Revere House and the Bunker Hill Memorial. Few cities hold as much history as Boston does, and you can feel the weight of it with every single step.

4. From MSP to Montego Bay, Jamaica ($536)

Like many parts of the island nation of Jamaica, Montego Bay is a scenic city surrounded by lush tropical forests and beautiful beaches. It is served by Sangster International Airport (MBJ), providing one of the cheapest international flights from MSP. It’s also a great place to go on a Caribbean cruise.

Looking for a tropical getaway? As one of the cheapest places to fly from MSP, Montego Bay, Jamaica is the perfect choice.

A great first stop for first-time visitors in Montego Bay is Sam Sharpe Square, a scenic plaza in front of the Montego Bay Cultural Centre. Here, travelers can learn about Jamaica’s unique culture and heritage, while paying tribute to the city’s history of civil rights activism. Located near the heart of the city, the square is always bustling with activity and is a great place to browse local vendors and food stands.

Obviously, the top reason to vacation in Jamaica is to get some sun at the stunning beaches. The most famous and beloved of these is Doctor’s Cave Beach, renowned for its turquoise waters and top-of-the-line amenities. Best of all, the entrance fee is only $6 and some of Montego Bay’s best restaurants are within walking distance, including Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville.

Montego Bay’s sunny tropical climate makes it a hotspot not just for tourists, but for rare and exotic birds. Many of these can be found at the Rocklands Bird Sanctuary. In fact, the animals here are so acclimated to humans, they’ll often land right on your finger to sip water from the complimentary water bottles given to guests. It’s a thrilling experience you’ll never forget!

5. From MSP to San Diego, CA ($213)

Among the cheapest places to fly from MSP, San Diego is a great pick for anyone who’s been California dreamin’. With sandy beaches, chic shopping boutiques, and tasty restaurants, there’s no shortage of cool things to see, buy, and savor. The fun begins as soon as you exit the terminal at San Diego International Airport (SAN).

Located just a short drive from LA, San Diego is one of the best and cheapest places to fly from MSP.

A good first stop is Balboa Park. Comprising 1,200 acres with hundreds of scenic gardens and walkways, it’s also home to theaters, a gymnasium, several museums, and perhaps most famously, the San Diego Zoo. This is the busiest zoo in the entire United States, and for good reason. With over 4,000 critters on display, including the largest population of giant pandas outside of China, it’s a wonderful experience for animal lovers.

If you like your wildlife a bit wilder, check out the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. Stretching across 2,000 acres, it’s home to a wide variety of wildlife, excellent hiking opportunities, and some of the most scenic views around. If animal-watching isn’t your thing, you can spend the day at Belmont Park instead. This beachside amusement park offers plenty of rides, games, and family-friendly fun.

The San Diego Air and Space Museum houses many interesting exhibits, like this replica of Da Vinci’s flying machine.

Last but not least, I highly recommend the San Diego Air and Space Museum, which chronicles the history of aviation and space exploration. Exhibits include meticulous reproductions of early prototypes by Leonard Da Vinci and the Wright Brothers, as well as the actual command module for the Apollo 9 space shuttle. Suffice it to say, the potential for good times at this cheap destination from MSP is sky-high!

6. From MSP to Mazatlán, Mexico ($414)

Think international flights have to be expensive? Think again, because the low fees at Mazatlán International Airport (MZT) make this coastal city one of the cheapest direct international flights from MSP. Founded by Spanish conquistadors in 1531, it’s one of the most beautiful places along the western edge of Mexico, and an excellent place to kick off a south-of-the-border vacation.

Mazatlan, Mexico isn’t just one of the cheapest places to fly from MSP. It’s a fun vacation for the whole family.

Tourists can get a glimpse into the rich history of Mazatlán by visiting the gorgeous Basilica Cathedral of Mazatlán, an 18th-century house of worship noted for breathtaking stained glass and lovingly preserved stonework. Or you can climb to the top of the Parque Natural Faro Mazatlán lighthouse. It’s a long hike, but the view of the city from the glass bridge at the top is totally worth it. It’ll take your breath away!

After you’ve worked up a good appetite, head over to the Malecón de Mazatlán, a 13-mile seawall that’s buzzing with food vendors. You’ll also find a number of street vendors, artists, and, of course, that famous ocean view. Or stop over at the Pino Suarez Mazatlan Market, where you can buy souvenirs along with fresh produce.

The hilltop Parque Natural Faro Mazatlan lighthouse offers stunning views of the surrounding beaches.

There’s no better way to cool off from the hot Mexican sun than with a dip in the pool at Mazagua Water Park, which has enough slides and fun activities to keep the whole family occupied. Alternatively, farther north is the Mazatlán Aquarium, famous for its live shows with sharks and sea lions. Everywhere you turn, you’ll be swimming in possibilities.

7. From MSP to New York, NY ($187)

Serviced by John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), New York City is one of the most famous cities on Earth. Whether you’ve been there before or not, there’s always something new to discover in the Big Apple. And since it’s one of the best flight deals from MSP, there’s no reason to not take a bite.

Being one of the cheapest places to fly from MSP, there’s no reason to not take a bite out of the Big Apple.

When visiting the city, your first stop should be Central Park. One of the most unique places to visit in the US, this 840-acre public park is located near the heart of Manhattan. It’s one of the most filmed locations in the world, appearing in countless movies and TV shows. Now’s your chance to see it up close!

Another can’t-miss tourist attraction is the Statue of Liberty, which is even more awe-inspiring up close. Liberty Island can be reached via ferry, and once you make it to the top you’ll have one the most magnificent view of the New York skyline. Not a fan of heights? There’s plenty to see and do at street level, especially when you’re wandering the storefronts of Times Square.

On top of being one of the cheapest places to fly from MSP, Central Park is one of the most filmed locations in the US.

Thinking about taking in a show? Broadway is the place to go, with a grand total of 41 active theaters presenting live plays and musicals. Where else can you see some of the biggest stars of stage and screen up close and personal, mere feet from where you sit? Even celebrities can’t resist the allure of New York City. Once you’ve experienced it for yourself, it’s easy to see why.

8. From MSP to Guatemala City, Guatemala ($527)

Believe it or not, you can see a big chunk of the world just using cheap international flights from MSP. The Central American paradise of Guatemala City is just one prime example. After all, it’s the only place on this list where you can climb not one but two volcanos, Agua and Pacaya.

With its beautifully preserved architecture and unique culture, Guatemala City is one of the best places to fly from Minneapolis.

If it’s your first time in the country, you’ll probably want to visit Mercado Central to explore the local culture and pick up some souvenirs. This charming traditional Guatemalan market is filled to the brim with all kinds of vendors selling regional street foods, locally made clothing, arts and crafts, and more. It’s a great walking experience, and the market is right next to the Cathedral of Guatemala City, a beautiful and ancient church constructed in the 1700s.

Both attractions are adjacent to Constitution Plaza, a scenic town square dating back to 1776. Here, you’ll find more local vendors, as well as live performances from musicians and other artists. Or you can take a stroll through Plaza España, a beautiful courtyard with an 18th-century fountain that looks amazing when lit up at night.

The sight of the nearby Pacaya volcano at dusk is something truly magical to behold.

If you’re the outdoorsy type, you’re in luck. Guatemala is also famous for its stunning landscapes. Explore the Central American wilderness at one of the many parks and nature reserves around Guatemala City. My favorite is Parque Ecologico Jacarandas de Cayalá, which boasts countless walking paths and over 117 species of birds. There really is no better way to enjoy the country’s abundant natural beauty.

9. From MSP to Miami, FL ($207)

Will Smith was right when he said “This is the type of town I could spend a few days in. Miami, the city that keeps the roof blazin’.” You might not hear the words “Bienvenidos a Miami” when you arrive at Miami International Airport (MIA), but you’ll definitely feel welcome. The fact that it’s one of the cheapest places to fly from MSP is just a bonus.

Beach-goers are in luck, as Miami is one of the cheapest places to fly to from MSP.

There’s no better place to get started than at the famed Miami Beach. This scenic stretch of coastline encompasses several smaller beaches, plus luxury hotels and a massive sandbar where you can bring your boat for a seaside party. Just off the coast of Miami is the small island known as Key Biscayne, home to a quaint village surrounded by lush, verdant parks.

Even more tropical wilderness can be found at Everglades National Park, a 1.5-million-acre wetlands preserve with a diverse population of foliage and local wildlife. Meanwhile, a completely different type of greenery awaits at Crandon Park, which is home to one of the best golf courses in all of Miami. There are also ample opportunities for windsurfing, canoeing, snorkeling, and kayaking.

No! Although international flights are often more expensive than domestic ones, this isn’t always the case. As with many things in life, timing is key. Some of the cheapest international flights from MSP coincide with a destination’s “slow season.”

As an example, let’s look at the Caribbean Islands. Their peak season is the summer, which means that more people will be flying there at that time. The principle of supply and demand thus drives ticket prices up. If you don’t mind traveling during the off-season, though, you could save hundreds of dollars on cheap plane tickets from MSP.
