When a person walks barefoot, he or she is connected to electrons that are present on Earth. The Earth’s surface has a negative charge that is due to thousands of daily lightning strikes around the world. Electrons from lightning enter Earth’s surface making an electrical reference point. The electric potential becomes 0 volts and the person in contact with the Earth’s surface has the same electric potential as that of Earth. A PubMed study by Richard Brown, Gaetan Chevalier, and Michael Hill researched the effect of grounding in reducing chronic pain. Thirty two men were divided into grounded and sham-grounded groups. During days 1-4, the visual analog scale for pain evaluations was used.
