I fly Southwest to Vegas more than any other airline. Even after the massive overhaul in 2025 and 2026, they’re still one of the best options for getting to the Strip. Southwest runs more flights to Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) than almost any other carrier, with nonstop service from cities all over the country and multiple daily departures from most hubs.

The big change is baggage. Southwest ended its legendary “Bags Fly Free” policy on May 28, 2025, and checked bags now cost $45 for the first and $55 for the second as of April 2026. That’s a big deal on Vegas trips where you’re packing outfits for shows, pool parties, and a night or two on the town. A-List Preferred members and Choice Extra fare holders still get two free bags, and Rapid Rewards credit cardholders get one free bag. I got the credit card specifically for this, and it paid for itself after my first two trips.

The other major change is seating. Southwest introduced assigned seating on January 27, 2026, ending 53 years of open boarding. You pick your seat at booking now (except on Basic fares, where it gets assigned at check-in) and board in one of eight numbered groups. The airline also rolled out Extra Legroom, Preferred, and Standard seat tiers across the fleet. The old “check in at exactly 24 hours” game is gone.

They operate over 550 nonstop routes across the country, and a huge chunk of them either start or end in Vegas.

The reason Allegiant makes this list is reach. They connect cities that the big airlines completely ignore, places like Appleton, Grand Rapids, Knoxville, and Bellingham, directly to LAS with no layovers. If you live near one of those airports, Allegiant might be the only carrier offering a nonstop flight to Vegas, and fares regularly start at $39 to $79 one-way. They ranked No. 2 in the Wall Street Journal’s 2026 airline rankings with a 99.89% controllable completion rate, the fewest cancellations of any US airline in 2025, and zero involuntary bumps.

You’ll pay for everything beyond a personal item, and I mean everything. Carry-ons, checked bags, seat selection, and even water onboard all cost extra.
