The FIFA World Cup comes to Estadio Akron this June, with four group-stage matches including Mexico vs. South Korea on June 18 and Uruguay vs. Spain on June 26. Even if you’re not going for the tournament, the energy across the city is going to be on another level.

I’ve flown to Mexico five times and visited over 73 countries, so I know how to find the right flights without overpaying. For this guide, I analyzed flights from over 170 airports in the US, Canada, and Europe to bring you the 10 best airlines for flying to Guadalajara in 2026. When it comes to flying between the US and Guadalajara, American Airlines has the volume game locked down. With multiple daily flights from Dallas, Phoenix, Chicago, and Miami, it’s easy to find a seat even during the holiday rush when half the plane’s packed with folks heading home.

Onboard quality varies by aircraft, but most now come with refreshed interiors, working power outlets, and WiFi fast enough for messaging and basic browsing. First Class won’t wow you with lie-flat seats, but it’s plenty comfortable for the 3-4 hour hop, with solid meals and friendly service. Main Cabin Extra gives you that extra bit of legroom, much appreciated if you’re flying home with a tequila hangover.

If you’re after warm service and cultural familiarity from gate to gate, this is the airline to beat.

The Aeromexico experience feels genuinely local. Flight attendants switch smoothly between Spanish and English, meals in Premium Class reflect real Mexican cuisine, and the service feels more like hospitality than just routine. Aeromexico’s 737 MAX and E190 aircraft have modern interiors, seatback screens, power outlets, and more legroom than you’d expect in standard Economy. AM Plus gives you extra space and priority perks for a modest fee, and Premier Class upgrades the whole journey with wider seats and better food and drinks.

Guadalajara is one of Aeromexico’s strongest hubs, so things tend to move efficiently on the ground. Check-in lines stay manageable, and Premier passengers can relax in the Salon Premier lounge, which was recently updated with full bar service, hot food, and even showers.

If your goal is getting to Guadalajara without spending a fortune, Volaris is one of the smartest plays around. This low-cost Mexican airline connects more than 15 US cities directly to GDL, and their fares often undercut legacy carriers by a wide margin.

Yes, it’s a budget airline, but don’t let that scare you off. Volaris flies a young, modern fleet of Airbus A320neos and A321neos, with USB outlets at most seats and surprisingly clean, well-kept interiors. The base fare is bare bones, so things like seat selection and checked bags cost extra, but you can customize what you need without paying for what you don’t. Want a little more space? Volaris’ Plus seats offer extra legroom, especially in exit rows and the front of the cabin, for a reasonable fee.

Volaris has turned Guadalajara into a focus city with direct flights throughout Mexico and the US. Their operations at GDL’s Terminal 1 are remarkably efficient, with self-service kiosks speeding the check-in process for tech-savvy travelers. 

The real savings come from Volaris’ v.club membership. For less than ten bucks a month, you’ll get 15-20% off most fares, plus early access to promotions. A single roundtrip often makes the subscription worth it. 

5. 🇺🇸 Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines is my top pick for getting to Guadalajara from anywhere on the West Coast. Their nonstops from Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle are a clean alternative to routing through Dallas or Houston on one of the legacy carriers. The flights are typically three to four hours, and Alaska runs them frequently enough that finding a schedule that works is rarely a problem.

The in-flight experience is consistently strong. Alaska’s Boeing 737 fleet has power outlets at every seat, speedy WiFi (with free Starlink rolling out for Atmos Rewards members in 2026), and entertainment you stream to your own device. Premium Class adds extra legroom and complimentary drinks. First Class includes wider seats and upgraded meals that I’ve found to be better than what Delta or United offer in the same cabin on comparable routes. Crews are relaxed and professional, and the overall vibe is distinctly West Coast without being gimmicky.

Atmos Rewards replaced the old Mileage Plan in late 2025 when Alaska and Hawaiian merged. The combined program covers both airlines and all oneworld partners in one account, and you can choose to earn points by distance, price paid, or segments flown. Roundtrip fares to Guadalajara usually fall between $350 and $550 in Main Cabin and $700 to $1,100 in First. Most Guadalajara routes now feature updated cabins with power outlets that actually work, substantially faster WiFi than before, and entertainment streaming to your device. First Class won’t blow your mind with innovation, but delivers comfortable recliners, decent meals, and attentive service perfectly suited for the relatively short journey. Economy Plus seats provide that precious extra legroom that makes all the difference after a weekend of exploring Guadalajara’s endless markets.

Houston’s Terminal E makes international travel smoother than expected, with streamlined immigration and customs areas tailored for Latin America-bound passengers. United’s lounges here have also stepped up, serving proper meals, solid drinks, and quieter corners to regroup before or after a busy flight.

MileagePlus continues to shine with frequent award deals. Saver redemptions to Guadalajara often go for just 17,500 miles each way. Cash fares usually sit between $350 and $550 in Economy and around $700 to $1,100 in First. The smart move? Copa’s onboard experience is simple but solid. Most aircraft are newer Boeing 737s with decent legroom, personal entertainment screens, and complimentary hot meals and drinks, including Economy. Southwest flies direct to Guadalajara from Houston Hobby and Phoenix, with seasonal routes from LAX and Las Vegas. If you’ve been a Southwest flyer for Mexico trips in the past, the airline still delivers on the routes. However, the experience has changed significantly in 2026 and I want to be upfront about that.

The “Bags Fly Free” policy ended in May 2025, and checked bags now cost $45 for the first and $55 for the second on most fares. That matters more than usual on Mexico trips where you’re packing gifts or bringing back tequila and crafts. Open seating ended January 27, 2026, replaced by assigned seating with Standard, Preferred, and Extra Legroom options. The old A/B/C boarding groups and EarlyBird Check-In are both gone. You now pick your seat at booking on most fares. Choice Extra still includes two free checked bags and extra legroom seats, and A-List Preferred members get two free bags as well.

What keeps Southwest on this list is the flexibility and the value of Rapid Rewards. No change fees is a big deal for international trips where plans can shift around visas, weather, or family schedules. Rapid Rewards points never expire and have no blackout dates, and the Companion Pass remains one of the best deals in travel for couples. Earn 135,000 qualifying points in a calendar year and your designated person flies with you for just taxes and fees for the rest of that year plus the entire next calendar year. On a destination like Guadalajara where fares stay reasonable year-round, the savings from a Companion Pass add up fast.

Whether you’re escaping winter or visiting family, they often come in cheaper than many U.S. carriers.

There are two versions of the Air Canada experience to Guadalajara. Mainline flights feature newer narrowbody jets with seatback screens, power at every seat, and full meal service even in economy. Air Canada’s leisure-focused Rouge brand is a little simpler, with fewer bells and whistles but still includes free checked bags and meals—something most budget airlines don’t offer. And if you’re flying Business Class, you’ll get wide recliners and upgraded dining that make the mid-length flight feel a lot shorter.

Toronto Pearson and Mexico City both work well for connections. Air Canada’s international zones are organized and easy to navigate, and their Maple Leaf Lounges serve proper hot meals, barista-made coffee, and offer showers perfect for long travel days. 

Aeroplan miles stretch far these days, especially when paired with transfer bonuses from credit card partners. Look out for Air Canada’s quarterly Worldwide Seat Sales, when Guadalajara sometimes dips under $400 roundtrip.
