Guadalajara has always been one of my favorite cities in Mexico, and 2026 is the biggest year it’s had in decades. The FIFA World Cup comes to Estadio Akron this June, with four group-stage matches including Mexico vs. South Korea on June 18 and Uruguay vs. Spain on June 26. Even if you’re not going for the tournament, the energy across the city is going to be on another level.
I’ve flown to Mexico five times and visited over 73 countries, so I know how to find the right flights without overpaying. For this guide, I analyzed flights from over 170 airports in the US, Canada, and Europe to bring you the 10 best airlines for flying to Guadalajara in 2026. These airlines were selected based on affordability, comfort, flight availability, and service quality, making it easy to reach Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport (GDL) without breaking the bank. Here are my top picks!
What’s new for Guadalajara in 2026
The 2026 FIFA World Cup comes to Guadalajara this June with four group-stage matches at Estadio Akron, including Mexico vs. South Korea (June 18) and Uruguay vs. Spain (June 26). Expect flights to GDL to sell out fast and fares to spike through the end of June. Book early if you’re planning around the tournament. On the airline side, Southwest ended free checked bags and open seating, and Alaska Airlines replaced Mileage Plan with Atmos Rewards, their new combined loyalty program with Hawaiian Airlines.
Quick tip on how to find cheap flights to Guadalajara
Want alerts on cheap flights to Guadalajara straight to your inbox? Sign up for Going (formerly Scott’s Cheap Flights), a membership-based service that finds huge discounts, mistake fares, and points and miles deals. Last year they helped me snag a roundtrip from Boston to Guadalajara for under $285, about 40% less than the going rate. All you have to do is enter your home airport and where you want to go.
There’s a free and a premium version and the free one has pretty much everything you’ll need. Though if you’re like me and travel a lot, it’s worth upgrading to the paid version for $49 per year. I recommend signing up for the free trial to try it for yourself. And if you like it, use my code JON25 for 25% off your membership!

1. 🇺🇸 American Airlines
- 🏠 Hub: Dallas (DFW), Phoenix (PHX), Chicago (ORD), Miami (MIA)
- 💺 Cabin Options: Main Cabin, Main Cabin Extra, First/Business
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: AAdvantage — oneworld alliance
- ☕ Perks: Most extensive US-Guadalajara network, operational reliability, oneworld connections
- 🧠 Pro Tip: Keep an eye out for Web Special awards as low as 10,000 miles each way. These pop up often and can save you a ton compared to standard rates.
When it comes to flying between the US and Guadalajara, American Airlines has the volume game locked down. With multiple daily flights from Dallas, Phoenix, Chicago, and Miami, it’s easy to find a seat even during the holiday rush when half the plane’s packed with folks heading home.
Onboard quality varies by aircraft, but most now come with refreshed interiors, working power outlets, and WiFi fast enough for messaging and basic browsing. First Class won’t wow you with lie-flat seats, but it’s plenty comfortable for the 3-4 hour hop, with solid meals and friendly service. Main Cabin Extra gives you that extra bit of legroom, much appreciated if you’re flying home with a tequila hangover.
Guadalajara’s upgraded terminal makes for a smoother arrival, and American’s check-in lanes usually move fast, even during peak times. Elites and premium passengers benefit from dedicated lines, while Admirals Club members can relax in lounges that now serve real food, not just sad cheese cubes.
AAdvantage miles go a long way here. Web Specials can drop to 10,000 miles each way, which is a steal. Cash fares typically run $350-550 roundtrip in Main Cabin and $700–1,000 in First. For better deals, fly midweek that often costs 15–20% less. If you’re flexible, consider departing from San Antonio or El Paso, where fares are sometimes $100-150 cheaper.

2. 🇺🇸 Delta Air Lines
- 🏠 Hub: Atlanta (ATL), Detroit (DTW), Salt Lake City (SLC), Los Angeles (LAX)
- 💺 Cabin Options: Main Cabin, Comfort+, First Class
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: SkyMiles — SkyTeam alliance
- ☕ Perks: Most reliable operations, excellent app, free messaging
- 🧠 Pro Tip: Book Delta’s Basic Economy but use the “Move Up” feature in the app 24 hours before departure. Upgrades to Comfort+ or First often sell for 50-70% less than the original fare difference
Want the smoothest ride to the land of tequila and mariachi? Delta brings their industry-leading reliability to Guadalajara with daily flights from Atlanta, Los Angeles, Detroit and seasonal service from other hubs. When your plans include business meetings or time-sensitive family events, Delta’s operational excellence means one less thing to worry about.
Most flights to Guadalajara use newer Airbus aircraft with seatback screens, fast WiFi, and power at every seat. Main Cabin service is friendly and includes complimentary drinks, including beer, wine, and spirits. Comfort+ gives you a bit more breathing room and earlier boarding, while First Class offers spacious recliners and upgraded meals that make the few extra hours in the air a lot more pleasant.
Atlanta is Delta’s main jumping-off point for Guadalajara, and it’s easy to connect there from just about anywhere in the U.S. The Delta app is one of the best in the business, giving you real-time updates, bag tracking, and rebooking options if weather gets in the way. It’s especially helpful during Mexico’s summer storm season.
SkyMiles delivers surprisingly good value for Guadalajara trips, with frequent flash sales dropping award tickets as low as 12,000 miles roundtrip from nearby cities. Cash fares typically range from $400-600 roundtrip in Main Cabin and $700-1,100 in First Class.

3. 🇲🇽 Aeromexico
- 🏠 Hub: Mexico City (MEX), Guadalajara (GDL)
- 💺 Cabin Options: Economy, AM Plus, Premier (Business)
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: Club Premier — SkyTeam alliance
- ☕ Perks: Most extensive Mexican network, cultural familiarity, premium lounges
- 🧠 Pro Tip: Go for the Basic Plus fare. It usually costs just $30-40 more than Basic but includes a checked bag, seat selection, and priority boarding.
Nobody knows Guadalajara like Aeromexico. As Mexico’s flag carrier, they offer nonstop flights from major US cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago, along with frequent service through their Mexico City hub. If you’re after warm service and cultural familiarity from gate to gate, this is the airline to beat.
✈️ How I Fly for a Fraction of the Price (Even Business Class)
Airfare keeps climbing, but I almost never pay full price. Going.com emails me roundtrips to Europe for under $350. With Elite, you’ll even see business class to Europe for ~$1,700 (deals you won’t find on Google Flights).
Planning a big trip? Elite members save up to $2,000 on a single international business-class ticket. I’ve seen nonstop biz to Scotland for $1,250.
👉 Try Going Elite free for 14 days. Cancel anytime, and use code JON25 for 25% off.
Just want the cheap economy deals? Start free in 10 seconds, no credit card required.
It’s the best money-saving tool I’ve used in 10+ years of travel.
👉 Try Going Elite free →The Aeromexico experience feels genuinely local. Flight attendants switch smoothly between Spanish and English, meals in Premium Class reflect real Mexican cuisine, and the service feels more like hospitality than just routine. Aeromexico’s 737 MAX and E190 aircraft have modern interiors, seatback screens, power outlets, and more legroom than you’d expect in standard Economy. AM Plus gives you extra space and priority perks for a modest fee, and Premier Class upgrades the whole journey with wider seats and better food and drinks.
Guadalajara is one of Aeromexico’s strongest hubs, so things tend to move efficiently on the ground. Check-in lines stay manageable, and Premier passengers can relax in the Salon Premier lounge, which was recently updated with full bar service, hot food, and even showers.
Club Premier miles are solid, especially if you catch one of the frequent Amex transfer bonuses. Roundtrip cash fares from the US usually range from $400-600 in Economy and $900-1,400 in Premier. Looking to save on your budget? Aeromexico’s Tuesday flash sales often drop fares to $299 roundtrip from West Coast cities.

4. 🇲🇽 Volaris
- 🏠 Hub: Guadalajara (GDL), Mexico City (MEX), Tijuana (TIJ)
- 💺 Cabin Options: Economy only
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: v.club (subscription program)
- ☕ Perks: Rock-bottom prices, extensive GDL network, direct US connections
- 🧠 Pro Tip: Try booking your flights on Volaris’ Mexican site (volaris.mx) instead of the English version as prices are often 5-10% lower for the exact same flights.
If your goal is getting to Guadalajara without spending a fortune, Volaris is one of the smartest plays around. This low-cost Mexican airline connects more than 15 US cities directly to GDL, and their fares often undercut legacy carriers by a wide margin.
Yes, it’s a budget airline, but don’t let that scare you off. Volaris flies a young, modern fleet of Airbus A320neos and A321neos, with USB outlets at most seats and surprisingly clean, well-kept interiors. The base fare is bare bones, so things like seat selection and checked bags cost extra, but you can customize what you need without paying for what you don’t. Want a little more space? Volaris’ Plus seats offer extra legroom, especially in exit rows and the front of the cabin, for a reasonable fee.
Volaris has turned Guadalajara into a focus city with direct flights throughout Mexico and the US. Their operations at GDL’s Terminal 1 are remarkably efficient, with self-service kiosks speeding the check-in process for tech-savvy travelers.
The real savings come from Volaris’ v.club membership. For less than ten bucks a month, you’ll get 15-20% off most fares, plus early access to promotions. A single roundtrip often makes the subscription worth it.

5. 🇺🇸 Alaska Airlines
- 🏠 Hub: Seattle (SEA), Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), Portland (PDX)
- 💺 Cabin Options: Main Cabin, Premium Class, First Class
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: Atmos Rewards (oneworld alliance, shared with Hawaiian Airlines)
- ☕ Perks: West Coast convenience, excellent service, Companion Fare benefit, free Starlink WiFi for members rolling out in 2026
- 🧠 Pro Tip: The Atmos Rewards credit card includes an annual Companion Fare that gets a second person a roundtrip ticket for just $99 plus taxes and fees. For couples heading to Guadalajara, that alone can save you $300 or more.
Alaska Airlines is my top pick for getting to Guadalajara from anywhere on the West Coast. Their nonstops from Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle are a clean alternative to routing through Dallas or Houston on one of the legacy carriers. The flights are typically three to four hours, and Alaska runs them frequently enough that finding a schedule that works is rarely a problem.
The in-flight experience is consistently strong. Alaska’s Boeing 737 fleet has power outlets at every seat, speedy WiFi (with free Starlink rolling out for Atmos Rewards members in 2026), and entertainment you stream to your own device. Premium Class adds extra legroom and complimentary drinks. First Class includes wider seats and upgraded meals that I’ve found to be better than what Delta or United offer in the same cabin on comparable routes. Crews are relaxed and professional, and the overall vibe is distinctly West Coast without being gimmicky.
Atmos Rewards replaced the old Mileage Plan in late 2025 when Alaska and Hawaiian merged. The combined program covers both airlines and all oneworld partners in one account, and you can choose to earn points by distance, price paid, or segments flown. Roundtrip fares to Guadalajara usually fall between $350 and $550 in Main Cabin and $700 to $1,100 in First. Credit card holders and elite members still get free checked bags, which adds up fast on Mexico trips when you’re bringing back tequila, ceramics, or gifts from Tlaquepaque.

6. 🇺🇸 United Airlines
- 🏠 Hub: Houston (IAH), Chicago (ORD), Denver (DEN), San Francisco (SFO)
- 💺 Cabin Options: Economy, Economy Plus, First Class
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: MileagePlus — Star Alliance network
- ☕ Perks: Houston hub proximity, solid reliability, comprehensive connections
- 🧠 Pro Tip: Flying to Mexico often? United’s “Flight Pass for Mexico” offers fixed-price fares from $199 a month, a lifesaver during peak seasons or last-minute trips.
Looking for the fastest path to tequila country? United‘s Houston hub sits just two hours from the Mexican border, creating the most efficient gateway to Guadalajara with multiple daily flights and streamlined connections from throughout the US.
United has significantly stepped up their Mexico game in recent years. Most Guadalajara routes now feature updated cabins with power outlets that actually work, substantially faster WiFi than before, and entertainment streaming to your device. First Class won’t blow your mind with innovation, but delivers comfortable recliners, decent meals, and attentive service perfectly suited for the relatively short journey. Economy Plus seats provide that precious extra legroom that makes all the difference after a weekend of exploring Guadalajara’s endless markets.
Houston’s Terminal E makes international travel smoother than expected, with streamlined immigration and customs areas tailored for Latin America-bound passengers. United’s lounges here have also stepped up, serving proper meals, solid drinks, and quieter corners to regroup before or after a busy flight.
MileagePlus continues to shine with frequent award deals. Saver redemptions to Guadalajara often go for just 17,500 miles each way. Cash fares usually sit between $350 and $550 in Economy and around $700 to $1,100 in First. The smart move? Book earlier flights out of Houston during summer, when afternoon storms can cause delays.

7. 🇵🇦 Copa Airlines
- 🏠 Hub: Panama City (PTY)
- 💺 Cabin Options: Economy, Economy Extra, Business
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: ConnectMiles — Star Alliance network
- ☕ Perks: South American connections, newer 737 MAX fleet, consistent experience
- 🧠 Pro Tip: Coming from South America? Copa’s one-stop routing through Panama is often faster and cheaper than the multi-stop options offered by other airlines.
The unsung hero of Latin American aviation delivers surprising value for Guadalajara-bound travelers, particularly those coming from South America or the Caribbean. Copa connects Panama City to Guadalajara daily, creating efficient one-stop routings from dozens of destinations that would otherwise require multiple connections.
Copa’s onboard experience is simple but solid. Most aircraft are newer Boeing 737s with decent legroom, personal entertainment screens, and complimentary hot meals and drinks, including Economy. The Economy Extra seats offer just enough extra space and boarding perks to make them worth the modest upcharge. Meanwhile, Business Class features wide recliners and friendly service at prices that often undercut U.S. competitors by hundreds of dollars.
The real magic happens at Copa’s Panama City hub, designed specifically for efficient connections. Minimum connection times can be as short as 30 minutes, with all flights operating from a single, easy-to-navigate terminal. The airport’s geographical position makes it the ideal connecting point between South America and Mexico, offering routings that can save hours compared to backtracking through U.S. hubs.
ConnectMiles is underrated but works well for regional travel, especially when paired with Star Alliance partners. Economy fares to Guadalajara usually range from $350 to $550 roundtrip, while business fares typically land between $700 and $1,100. The insider strategy? Keep an eye on Copa’s Tuesday fare deals, which often include Guadalajara at prices that feel like a glitch.

8. 🇺🇸 Southwest Airlines
- 🏠 Hub: Houston Hobby (HOU), Phoenix (PHX), Los Angeles (LAX), Las Vegas (LAS)
- 💺 Cabin Options: Basic, Choice, Choice Preferred, Choice Extra (with Standard, Preferred, and Extra Legroom seats)
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: Rapid Rewards with no blackout dates
- ☕ Perks: No change fees, Companion Pass, direct Guadalajara service from Houston and Phoenix, complimentary snacks and drinks
- 🧠 Pro Tip: Booking with Rapid Rewards points lets you cancel anytime and get all your points back instantly. No fees, no penalties.
Southwest flies direct to Guadalajara from Houston Hobby and Phoenix, with seasonal routes from LAX and Las Vegas. If you’ve been a Southwest flyer for Mexico trips in the past, the airline still delivers on the routes. However, the experience has changed significantly in 2026 and I want to be upfront about that.
The “Bags Fly Free” policy ended in May 2025, and checked bags now cost $45 for the first and $55 for the second on most fares. That matters more than usual on Mexico trips where you’re packing gifts or bringing back tequila and crafts. Open seating ended January 27, 2026, replaced by assigned seating with Standard, Preferred, and Extra Legroom options. The old A/B/C boarding groups and EarlyBird Check-In are both gone. You now pick your seat at booking on most fares. Choice Extra still includes two free checked bags and extra legroom seats, and A-List Preferred members get two free bags as well.
What keeps Southwest on this list is the flexibility and the value of Rapid Rewards. No change fees is a big deal for international trips where plans can shift around visas, weather, or family schedules. Rapid Rewards points never expire and have no blackout dates, and the Companion Pass remains one of the best deals in travel for couples. Earn 135,000 qualifying points in a calendar year and your designated person flies with you for just taxes and fees for the rest of that year plus the entire next calendar year. On a destination like Guadalajara where fares stay reasonable year-round, the savings from a Companion Pass add up fast.

9. 🇨🇦 Air Canada
- 🏠 Hub: Toronto (YYZ), Montreal (YUL), Vancouver (YVR)
- 💺 Cabin Options: Economy, Premium Economy, Business
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: Aeroplan — Star Alliance network
- ☕ Perks: Snowbird connections, competitive fares, excellent premium cabins
- 🧠 Pro Tip: Look for Rouge-operated flights on vacation routes. They’re often 15 to 20 percent cheaper than mainline and still include checked bags and meals.
Air Canada offers a smooth ride from the north to the heart of Jalisco, with seasonal nonstops from Toronto and convenient year-round connections via Mexico City through their Aeromexico partnership. Whether you’re escaping winter or visiting family, they often come in cheaper than many U.S. carriers.
There are two versions of the Air Canada experience to Guadalajara. Mainline flights feature newer narrowbody jets with seatback screens, power at every seat, and full meal service even in economy. Air Canada’s leisure-focused Rouge brand is a little simpler, with fewer bells and whistles but still includes free checked bags and meals—something most budget airlines don’t offer. And if you’re flying Business Class, you’ll get wide recliners and upgraded dining that make the mid-length flight feel a lot shorter.
Toronto Pearson and Mexico City both work well for connections. Air Canada’s international zones are organized and easy to navigate, and their Maple Leaf Lounges serve proper hot meals, barista-made coffee, and offer showers perfect for long travel days.
Aeroplan miles stretch far these days, especially when paired with transfer bonuses from credit card partners. Look out for Air Canada’s quarterly Worldwide Seat Sales, when Guadalajara sometimes dips under $400 roundtrip.

10. 🇬🇧 British Airways
- 🏠 Hub: London Heathrow (LHR), London Gatwick (LGW)
- 💺 Cabin Options: World Traveller (Economy), World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy), Club World (Business)
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: Executive Club — oneworld alliance
- ☕ Perks: European connections, excellent award availability, oneworld network
- 🧠 Pro Tip: Try booking through Madrid instead of London to avoid UK departure taxes. You’ll often save around $150 and still earn full Avios.
Want to add some European flair to your Guadalajara journey? British Airways connects London to the heart of tequila country with efficient one-stop service through Mexico City in partnership with Aeromexico, creating easy access for European travelers and Americans collecting valuable Avios.
Even though BA doesn’t fly directly into Guadalajara, you’ll still enjoy their service touches throughout the trip. Long-haul flights out of Heathrow or Gatwick connect easily with Aeromexico’s short hop to GDL, and perks like baggage allowance and elite benefits carry over between the two airlines. Aeromexico’s service on the final leg includes complimentary meals, drinks, and seatback entertainment.
Flying Club World on the transatlantic segment gives you access to BA’s newest Club Suites, complete with privacy doors and direct aisle access. World Traveller Plus adds comfort with wider seats, extra recline, and better food. Economy passengers also get a solid experience here, especially when departing from Heathrow’s Terminal 5, where the lounges and shopping options help kick off the trip on a high note.
Avios can be a good deal here, especially on short hops like Mexico City to Guadalajara, which start around 4,500 miles one-way. Roundtrip cash fares from the US to Guadalajara via London and Mexico City typically run $750 to $1,100 in Economy and $1,900 to $3,200 in Business.
