Spirit Airlines Has Shut Down
Quick heads up before you book: Spirit Airlines stopped flying on May 2, 2026 and is now being liquidated after two bankruptcies. It was one of the cheapest ways out of Detroit, so with its pricing pressure gone you’ll likely see budget fares creep up on the routes it used to fly, including DTW to Fort Lauderdale and DTW to Cancun. Delta, American, and JetBlue still cover most of these destinations. Here’s the shutdown news.
