I’ve spent the last decade flying business class on over 30 airlines across 50+ countries, and no route gets me more excited than the US to London. It’s where airlines throw their best hardware, their newest seats, and their biggest budgets because the competition is brutal. For 2026, I’ve ranked the 12 best airlines to fly business class to London from the USA based on what matters most: the seat, the food, the price, and how long it takes to get there.

The list is split into two tiers. First, seven airlines that fly direct, because your time matters. Then five connecting options through hubs like Doha, Paris, and Istanbul that earn the extra hours. Some of these will surprise you!

British Airways flies direct to London from 27 US cities, more than any other airline, with new service from St. Louis launching April 2026. Major hubs like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, and San Francisco have multiple daily departures, so you can pick a schedule that works for you. That network alone is why they top my list.

The Club Suite seat comes with a privacy door, a fully flat bed measuring 6 foot 6 inches, and an 18.5 inch entertainment screen. Every seat has direct aisle access in a 1-2-1 configuration, so you won’t climb over anyone to get up. Free Starlink WiFi is rolling out across the fleet throughout 2026, which is great news for anyone who needs to work or stay connected during the flight.

Pricing typically ranges from $3,000 to $6,000 round trip depending on season and how far ahead you book. If you collect Avios points through their Executive Club or any Oneworld partner like American Airlines, you can book Club Suite for around 60,000 to 80,000 Avios each way plus taxes. Virgin Atlantic is the airline that makes business class feel exciting. Their Upper Class cabin combines lie-flat beds, an onboard social space called The Loft, and consistently friendly crew. Direct routes run from JFK, Boston, Miami, Atlanta, Tampa, and more, so coverage from the US East Coast is strong.

The real standout is what happens on the ground. The Clubhouse lounges at JFK and Heathrow are widely regarded as some of the best business class lounges in the world, with full spa treatments, cocktail bars, and à la carte dining. At Heathrow, Upper Class passengers also get the Upper Class Wing, a private check-in and security experience that feels VIP.

Where it gets nuanced is the fleet. The A350-1000 offers the most spacious seat but has no door, while the newer A330neo adds doors and Retreat Suites but gets mixed reviews for tight footwells and storage. I’ll be honest, Delta isn’t the most glamorous airline on this list. There’s no onboard bar, no flying chefs, no Clubhouse spa. But what Delta does better than almost anyone is consistency. Every time I’ve flown Delta One, the experience has been exactly what I expected – clean cabin, friendly crew, good food, and an on-time arrival. When you’re crossing the Atlantic overnight for a morning meeting, that predictability is worth a lot.

If you’re paying out of pocket rather than expensing it, JetBlue Mint should be right at the top of your list. I’ve seen round trips to London for $2,000 to $3,500 when competitors are charging double, and the product punches above its weight. The Mint Studio seats have a sliding door, a lie-flat bed, and a 22-inch screen. It’s closer to first class than traditional business class, and the price difference is hard to ignore.

The experience feels boutique in a way the big carriers can’t match. Crew are relaxed and personable, the food is excellent, and you get free high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the flight. There’s no lounge access included, but honestly at JFK’s T5 the terminal experience is decent enough, and the savings often cover a day pass somewhere better.

The trade-off is the aircraft. JetBlue flies A321LRs, which are single-aisle narrowbodies. It’s perfectly comfortable for a 7-hour overnight crossing, but if you’re used to wide-body cabins with more space to move around, you’ll notice the difference. Flights only depart from JFK and Boston, so if you’re not on the East Coast you’ll need a connection. For the price though, it’s hard to beat what JetBlue offers here.

5. 🇺🇸 American Airlines

American has been behind Delta and United on the premium front for years, so the new Flagship Suite feels like a statement of intent. The 787-9P features 51 business class suites with sliding privacy doors, lie-flat beds, wireless charging, and Bluetooth audio. There are even eight Flagship Suite Preferred seats in the front rows with extra space – think of it as business class plus. If you land on the right aircraft, this is now the best hard product of any US carrier flying to London.

The catch – and it’s a big one – is fleet inconsistency. Right now, American has around 11 787-9Ps in service, and they’re concentrated on routes from Chicago, Philly, and Dallas to Heathrow. Many London flights still use older 777-200ERs with the previous-generation seat and no privacy door. The experience gap between the two is massive, so checking your aircraft type before booking is essential.

As of early 2026, all ORD-LHR flights run on the 787-9P, with PHL and DFW also getting regular Flagship Suite service. Free Wi-Fi started rolling out in January 2026, and more 787-9P deliveries are expected through 2029. Pricing typically falls between $3,000 and $6,500 round trip, or you can book through Alaska Mileage Plan for around 55,000 miles each way – one of the best value redemptions out there right now.

6. 🇺🇸 United Airlines

  • 💡 Pro Tip: If you’re flying from Newark or Chicago, check whether a Polaris Lounge is available at your terminal. The dining, showers, and quiet suites make arriving early worth it.

I’ve always thought United’s Polaris was one of those products that quietly does everything well without making a fuss about it. The lie-flat beds are comfortable, the Saks Fifth Avenue bedding is a nice touch, and the 1-2-1 layout means direct aisle access from every seat. It’s not flashy, but I’ve consistently slept well on United overnight flights to London, and that’s really what matters on a redeye.

But honestly, the reason I’m most excited about United right now is the new planes. Their new “United Elevated” 787-9s launch with completely redesigned Polaris suites featuring sliding privacy doors, 4K OLED screens, and a brand new Polaris Studio product. You’ll find eight larger suites per plane with 27-inch screens, caviar service, and Laurent-Perrier rosé champagne. The first international routes are SFO to Singapore and SFO to London Heathrow, with around 30 of these aircraft expected by 2027. Free Starlink Wi-Fi will come standard on the new planes.

Until those new jets roll out widely, the current Polaris experience is still very solid across United’s London routes from Newark, Chicago, SFO, Washington Dulles, and Houston. Pricing runs $3,000 to $8,000 round trip, and MileagePlus redemptions start around 60,000 miles each way. The Chicago Polaris Lounge reopened in April 2025 at 50% larger than before, and Newark is getting a new Polaris dining room in 2026. If you’re patient enough to wait for the Elevated cabins, United could jump several spots on this list.

7. 🇺🇸 Alaska Airlines

I’ll admit, I never expected to put Alaska Airlines on a list of best business class flights to London. But here we are. Starting May 21, 2026, Alaska launches daily year-round nonstop service from Seattle to Heathrow on their Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, and the product looks seriously competitive. The 34 enclosed business class suites feature Adient Ascent seats with sliding privacy doors, lie-flat beds, 18-inch 4K screens, wireless charging, and direct aisle access in a 1-2-1 layout.

The soft product leans into Alaska’s West Coast identity, which I think is a smart move. Their Chef’s Table dining program features partnerships with brands like Salt & Straw and Stumptown Coffee, and bedding comes from Filson with Salt & Stone amenity kits. At Heathrow Terminal 3, you’ll have access to oneworld partner lounges, and back in Seattle, the Alaska Lounge anchors the departure experience. It’s not going to rival BA’s Clubhouse or Virgin’s Upper Class Wing, but it’s a good start.

The big unknown is execution. Alaska has zero long-haul track record on their own metal. These 787s were inherited from the Hawaiian Airlines merger and will still feel familiar to anyone who flew Hawaiian’s Dreamliner. There’s no Wi-Fi at launch either, with Starlink not arriving until late 2026. Introductory fares start around $699 round trip in economy and roughly $3,500 in business, though award pricing is steep at 150,000-200,000 Atmos points one-way. If you’re based in the Pacific Northwest, this is a game-changer. For everyone else, it’s one to watch.

  • 💡 Pro Tip: All Qatar flights from US cities now guarantee QSuite-equipped aircraft, but always double-check the seat map before booking. On the rare occasion of an aircraft swap, you’re entitled to a free rebooking or refund.

I debated where to put Qatar on this list for a while. If we’re ranking purely on the quality of the business class seat, QSuite is number one – full stop. I’ve yet to fly anything that matches the combination of privacy doors, the option to convert two suites into a double bed, and the quad configuration where four passengers can create their own private cabin. It’s the product that made every other airline rethink what business class should look like.

The reason it sits at number eight is the connection through Doha. A direct flight from JFK to London takes around seven hours. Routing through Doha turns that into 15-20 hours minimum, and that’s a tough sell when you just want to get to London. That said, the layover itself is far from painful. The Al Mourjan lounge at Hamad International is one of the most impressive airport spaces I’ve walked through, with à la carte dining, quiet rooms, and showers. If you have the time, it feels like a destination in itself.

For 2026, QSuite 2.0 is on the horizon with new A350-1000 deliveries, promising taller doors, wider seats, and window-side companion suites that face each other. Qatar flies to Heathrow from all 10 US gateways via Doha, including JFK, LAX, MIA, ORD, BOS, DFW, IAH, SEA, ATL, and PHL. Pricing varies wildly, but round trips can start from $3,000 in business class, and you can book with Avios through oneworld partners at solid rates. If time isn’t your biggest constraint, this is the best seat in the sky.

9. 🇫🇷 Air France

  • 💡 Pro Tip: The bulkhead seats in rows 1 and 9 on the new 777 and A350 cabins have dramatically more space, almost like a mini-first class. They’re reserved for Flying Blue Ultimate members initially, but open to all passengers 72 hours before departure.

Air France is the airline I most enjoy connecting through when I’m not in a rush to reach London. The food alone justifies the detour. Menus curated by Michelin-starred chefs, a serious champagne and wine program, and a cheese course that puts most restaurant experiences to shame – it’s unmatched in business class.

The hard product has caught up, too. About half of Air France’s 39 A350s now have the updated business suites with sliding doors, 4K screens, wireless charging, and Bluetooth audio. The 777-300ER fleet is mid-retrofit with the Safran Versa seat, and Air France plans to finish the entire four-cabin 777 fleet by the end of 2026. If you land the new cabin, you’re getting a 6.5-foot lie-flat bed that’s 27 inches wide in a 1-2-1 layout. If you don’t, the older reverse herringbone seats are still perfectly decent for sleeping (just without the privacy door).

The Paris connection adds 3-5 hours versus a direct US-London flight, but CDG itself has improved dramatically. The redesigned lounges are spacious and well-stocked, and the Starlink Wi-Fi rollout should be fleet-wide by the end of 2026. Flying Blue miles transfer from Amex, Chase, Citi, and Capital One, and business class award availability tends to be better than most European carriers. If dining matters to you as much as the seat, this is the one to book.

10. 🇩🇪 Lufthansa

  • 💡 Pro Tip: Skip the €400-600 Business Suite fee and book a window Privacy seat instead – nearly as private at a fraction of the cost. When booking, look for the “Allegris: New seat concept” tag on Lufthansa’s website to confirm you’re getting the new cabin.

Lufthansa spent years with one of the most outdated business class products among major European carriers. Allegris fixes that. The A350s flying out of Munich now feature 27-inch 4K screens, heated and cooled seats, shoulder sink-in technology for side sleepers, and, finally, suites with sliding doors in the front rows. It’s a dramatic improvement, and the Business Suites rival Qatar’s QSuite for privacy.

The problem is the same one that plagues every ambitious cabin rollout: availability. Ten Allegris A350s are based in Munich, with a handful of 787s in Frankfurt. US routes include Chicago, LA, Miami, New York, San Francisco, and San Diego from Munich, but not every frequency gets an Allegris plane. The rest of the fleet still runs the old 2-2-2 layout, which feels like a different airline entirely.

The connection through Munich or Frankfurt adds 3-5 hours to reach London, and Frankfurt in particular can be a stressful transit. But Lufthansa’s network depth is unmatched in Europe, award availability through Aeroplan or Miles & More is decent, and the first class Suite Plus, a private double cabi, is one of the most over-the-top products flying today if you want to splurge. Just make absolutely sure you’re on an Allegris aircraft before you book.

11. 🇹🇷 Turkish Airlines

  • 🛫 Best For: Budget-conscious travelers who want incredible food, a free Istanbul stopover, and often the cheapest business class fares to Europe

  • 💡 Pro Tip: US business class passengers get three free nights at a 5-star Istanbul hotel through the Stopover program if your layover is 20+ hours. You need to apply at least 72 hours before departure through the Turkish Airlines website.

Turkish Airlines is who I recommend most when someone tells me they want business class to London but can’t stomach the prices. Round trips regularly come in under $3,000, award seats are generous at 45,000 Miles & Smiles each way (Capital One and Citi both transfer), and the food is unmatched at this price point. DO&CO catering with a flying chef onboard, proper Turkish meze from a trolley, fresh bread, and baklava that tastes like it came from a shop in the Grand Bazaar.

The hard product is where it gets complicated. The 787 and A350 fly a modern 1-2-1 layout that competes with any European carrier, but many US routes still get the 777 with a dated 2-3-2 configuration and middle seats in business class. The new Crystal suites with sliding doors are rolling out on 777s now and about half the long-haul fleet should have them by late 2026. Check your aircraft before booking.

The Istanbul connection adds time, but that free three-night stopover in a 5-star hotel turns your layover into a destination. Turkish flies to more countries than any airline on earth, the IST lounge is one of the best in the world. If you have an extra day to explore one of the world’s great cities on the way to London, nobody offers anything close to this deal.

12. 🇦🇪 Emirates

  • 💡 Pro Tip: Always book the A380 over the 777. The A380 has the onboard bar, 1-2-1 layout, and a far better experience. Retrofitted 777s now have 1-2-1 too, but older ones still fly the dreaded 2-3-2 with middle seats.

Flying Emirates business class to London means going through Dubai, turning a 7-hour trip into 18 to 24 hours. On paper that makes no sense. In practice, Emirates is the airline people remember years later. The A380 has a cocktail lounge at the back of the upper deck where you can grab a drink and talk to people at 40,000 feet. They’ll send a private car to pick you up and drive you to the airport. The food is five-star quality and the service feels like a luxury hotel that happens to fly.

The fleet is mid-upgrade right now. Older 777s had a cramped layout where some business class passengers sat in middle seats, which felt unacceptable at premium prices. Emirates is fixing that with a new configuration giving everyone their own space and aisle access, plus adding fast Starlink Wi-Fi, but it’s not finished yet. If your flight is on an older plane the experience is noticeably worse. Always check which version you’re getting.

The sweet spot is someone planning a London trip who also wants a few days in Dubai. Emirates flies to both Heathrow and Gatwick, the layover can be as short or long as you want, and you get two destinations for one ticket. Round trips start around $3,000 in business. If getting to London fast is the priority, pick a direct flight. If the journey is part of the vacation, Emirates makes it an event.

When I’m not road-tripping across the Northeast or writing guides for Global Viewpoint, you’ll find me cold plunging in local lakes, sipping espresso in quiet cafes in Vienna, or chasing fall foliage across New England. I split my time between exploring the world and soaking up life in Boston, my lifelong home base. Some of my favorite places I keep going back to? Switzerland, Spain, Iceland, Italy, Greece, the Faroe Islands, Guatemala, California, Montana, Vermont, the UK, the Philippines, Argentina, the Caribbean, and coastal Maine in autumn.
