Those dark Swedish winters make anyone dream of escaping somewhere sunny. After months of tracking flights from Arlanda (while warming up with Fika at Vete Katten), I’ve found some incredible deals that’ll get you out exploring. These are the best places in Stockholm to grab cheap flights that’ll take you somewhere actually exciting without destroying your budget.

Want to trade your morning cardamom bun for fresh croissants in Paris’s Le Marais? Or swap the archipelago for the beach clubs of Mallorca’s Port de Sóller? I just spotted round-trip flights under 1000 SEK to both. Seriously. I’ve spent way too much time hunting down these deals, and now I’m sharing exactly how you can snag them too.

#1 tip for finding cheap flights from Stockholm

Looking for cheap places to fly from Stockholm? Before jumping into all the coolest cities and airports to fly into, I want to share a quick tip to save money on airfare.

For the past 5 years, I’ve used Scott’s Cheap Flights (now called Going) to find cheap flight deals. It’s free and super easy to use. All you have to do is enter in your home airport (i.e. ARN, NYO, and BMA) and where you want to go, and they’ll send you mistake fares and other ridiculously cheap flight deals.

In 2024 alone, I saved thousands of dollars thanks to their email alerts. This includes most recently, a $399 roundtrip fare from Boston to Stockholm. On average, I save about $350 roundtrip on selected flight routes. So, I’m a huge fan and couldn’t recommend them more!

If you’re a frequent flier, consider getting their premium version. It costs $49 per year, but it will easily save you hundreds (or thousands) of dollars if you fly just 1-2 times. I recommend signing up for the free trial (which you can cancel at any time) to test it out for yourself. And if you like it, use my coupon code JON20 to save 20%!

1. Stockholm to Riga ($69–$140 roundtrip)

  • ✈️ Flight Time: 1 hour
  • 🛫 Airlines: Ryanair, airBaltic, SAS (multiple daily direct flights)
  • 📅 Best Time to Visit: May to September 🌞 for perfect weather, December 🎄 for Christmas markets
  • 🏆 Perfect for: Architecture lovers 🏛️, budget travelers 💰, history buffs 🏰

Riga is that perfect Baltic gem where your money stretches ridiculously far while the Instagram content looks expensive. Latvia’s capital delivers insane Art Nouveau architecture, a perfectly preserved medieval Old Town, and a food and drink scene that will have you questioning why you’ve been overpaying for everything back home.

The Old Town isn’t just another European historic district. This UNESCO-listed area packs stunning medieval buildings, hidden courtyards, and rooftop bars where you can sip local craft beers for half what you’d pay in Stockholm. For serious architecture porn, the Art Nouveau District showcases hundreds of buildings with elaborate facades featuring screaming women, mythical beasts, and geometric patterns that make perfect photo backdrops. When you need a break from urban exploring, Jurmala Beach is just 30 minutes away with surprisingly white sand stretching for 20+ miles along the Baltic Sea.

When it comes to flights, Ryanair consistently offers the cheapest fares, sometimes as low as $69 roundtrip when booked 6-8 weeks ahead for midweek travel. August is prime time with long daylight hours, while December transforms the city with Christmas markets and snow-dusted medieval streets for peak winter vibes.

If you seek a distinctive European escape, Riga guarantees an unparalleled experience.

2. Stockholm to Tallinn ($55–$120 roundtrip)

  • ✈️ Flight Time: 55 minutes
  • 🛫 Airlines: Ryanair, airBaltic, SAS (daily direct flights)
  • 📅 Best Time to Visit: June to August 🌞 for long summer days, December 🎄 for magical winter vibes
  • 🏆 Perfect for: Medieval fans 🏰, digital nomads 💻, budget luxury seekers 💅

Tallinn is basically a fairytale come to life that somehow hasn’t been overrun by mass tourism yet. Estonia’s capital serves medieval charm that looks straight out of a movie set, tech-forward amenities that make the city feel surprisingly futuristic, and prices that’ll make you wonder why you’ve been blowing your money in Western Europe all this time.

The Old Town isn’t just another tourist zone. This insanely well-preserved medieval district has city walls you can actually walk on, hidden courtyards where locals still live, and cobblestone streets so perfect you’ll think they were installed last week for a film shoot. For digital vibes that’ll surprise you, Telliskivi Creative City transformed an industrial complex into a hipster paradise with coworking spaces, craft breweries, and vintage shops housed in colorful shipping containers and former factories.

Ryanair drops fares as low as $55 roundtrip when you catch their flash sales and can travel light. Summer brings those epic Nordic white nights when the sun barely sets and locals party until 4am in outdoor bars, while December transforms the city with one of Europe’s most atmospheric Christmas markets in the Town Hall Square.

Apart from its physical beauty, Tallinn serves as a hub for innovation.

3. Stockholm to Vilnius ($78–$150 roundtrip)

  • ✈️ Flight Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • 🛫 Airlines: Ryanair, airBaltic, SAS (daily direct flights)
  • 📅 Best Time to Visit: May to September 🌞 for perfect exploring weather, December 🎄 for festive vibes
  • 🏆 Perfect for: Budget luxury seekers 💅, creative types 🎨, nightlife enthusiasts 🍸

Vilnius is that hidden Baltic treasure where your Swedish kronor suddenly becomes luxury money. Lithuania’s capital brings baroque architecture that rivals Western Europe, a self-declared “republic” filled with artistic bohemians, and a nightlife scene that keeps going until sunrise without the Stockholm price tag or attitude.

The Old Town is seriously massive for a Baltic capital, with winding cobblestone streets leading to hidden courtyards, baroque churches, and cafés tucked into centuries-old buildings that somehow survived wars and Soviet occupation. For peak creative vibes, Užupis is literally a neighborhood that declared itself an independent republic with its own constitution, perfect for free spirits.

Ryanair consistently offers the cheapest deals, sometimes dipping below $80 roundtrip if you book 4-6 weeks ahead and travel with just a backpack. Time your visit in the summer months for that perfect outdoor weather and street festivals.

  • 📅 Best Time to Visit: May to September 🌞 for outdoor activities, December 🎄 for festive markets
  • 🏆 Perfect for: History buffs 🏛️, budget foodies 🍽️, nightlife seekers 🍸

Warsaw is that perfect European destination that somehow still flies under the radar despite being ridiculously affordable and seriously cool. Poland’s capital serves next-level historical contrasts with its completely rebuilt Old Town next to Soviet-era architecture, food that will reset your expectations of Polish cuisine, and nightlife that keeps going until sunrise without destroying your wallet.

The Old Town looks medieval but is actually an incredible reconstruction after being completely destroyed in WWII, with colorful buildings and market squares that hide the fact they’re barely 70 years old. For a total vibe switch, the Praga District delivers industrial-cool with former factories now housing art galleries, underground clubs, and vodka bars where locals and visitors mix over shots that cost less than a coffee back in Stockholm.

Ryanair consistently drops fares below $60 roundtrip when booked during flash sales, though LOT Polish Airlines offers better service for usually just $20-30 more. Summer brings perfect weather for the city’s abundant parks and outdoor cafés, while December transforms the Old Town with Christmas markets that deliver all the festive vibes at half the price of Western European cities.

Warsaw entices travelers with budget-friendly flights, frequently operated by carriers such as LOT Polish Airlines and SAS.

  • 📅 Best Time to Visit: May to September 🌞 for outdoor culture, April and October 🍂 for fewer tourists
  • 🏆 Perfect for: Party animals 🎧, art enthusiasts 🎨, history nerds 🏛️

Berlin is that rare European capital where the vibes are immaculate but your bank account stays relatively intact. Germany’s cultural powerhouse delivers nightlife that literally never stops, street art that transforms entire buildings into canvases, and history so layered you can experience multiple centuries just by walking down a single street.

Kreuzberg isn’t just another hip neighborhood. This multicultural district serves Turkish street food that will ruin döner kebabs for you forever, techno clubs hidden in former power stations, and flea markets where you can score vintage East German jackets. For serious history without the boring museums, the East Side Gallery stretches over a kilometer with massive murals painted directly onto preserved sections of the Berlin Wall.

Ryanair and easyJet constantly battle for the cheapest fares, often dropping below $80 roundtrip when booked 4-6 weeks ahead. Skip the peak summer crush and hit Berlin in September when locals return from vacation but weather still permits outdoor biergartens.

Berlin's accessibility is notably boosted by major airports, with Berlin Brandenburg Airport being a significant hub.

  • 📅 Best Time to Visit: May to September 🌞 for outdoor activities, December 🎄 for hygge vibes
  • 🏆 Perfect for: Design lovers 🪑, foodies 🍽️, bike enthusiasts 🚲

Copenhagen is that perfectly sized Scandinavian city where everything just works. Denmark’s capital delivers Instagram-worthy colorful harbors, food that’s somehow worth the price tag, and streets so bike-friendly you’ll wonder why the rest of the world hasn’t caught up yet.

Nyhavn isn’t just for tourist photos. This colorful harbor district actually delivers with waterfront restaurants where you can sample smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches) while watching boats come and go. For a taste of local life, Reffen brings together food stalls in shipping containers where young chefs test concepts before opening proper restaurants, all with harbor views that make the street food experience feel surprisingly upscale.

Norwegian frequently drops fares below $50 roundtrip during flash sales, making this one of the absolute cheapest international flights from Stockholm. Summer brings perfect weather for exploring the city’s abundant waterfront spaces, while winter offers legendary Christmas markets and those cozy Danish vibes.

  • 📅 Best Time to Visit: May to September 🌞 for outdoor adventures, February ❄️ for winter sports
  • 🏆 Perfect for: Nature lovers 🏔️, architecture fans 🏛️, coffee enthusiasts ☕

Oslo is that perfect Scandi capital where urban cool meets actual wilderness. Norway’s main city serves stunning fjord views right from downtown, architecture so sleek it belongs in design magazines, and outdoor adventures that start where the subway ends.

Operahuset isn’t just another performing arts center. This marble and glass masterpiece rises from the fjord like an iceberg you can actually walk on, with a sloped roof that becomes a public space offering panoramic views across the harbor. For nature without leaving the city, Ekebergparken combines sculpture installations with hiking trails and viewpoints where you can capture the entire city with water and mountains in the background.

June through August is peak time to catch those legendary Nordic sun-filled nights perfect for kayaking the Oslo Fjord until 11pm, while winter transforms nearby hills into ski slopes accessible by public transport. For flights, Norwegian consistently offers the best deals with fares regularly around $70 roundtrip when booked a few weeks ahead.

  • 📅 Best Time to Visit: June to August 🌞 for outdoor festivals, February ❄️ for winter magic
  • 🏆 Perfect for: Design hunters 🪑, sauna enthusiasts 🧖, architecture lovers 🏛️

Helsinki is that perfect blend of Scandinavian cool and distinct Finnish quirkiness. Finland’s capital delivers design so clean it hurts, sauna culture that’ll have you willingly jumping into frozen water, and urban planning so perfect you’ll wonder why your hometown can’t get its act together.

Design District isn’t just marketing hype. This neighborhood packs over 200 boutiques, galleries, and studios into walkable streets where you can score pieces by upcoming Finnish designers before they hit the international scene. For a uniquely Finnish experience, Löyly offers a waterfront public sauna where you can sweat it out with locals before cooling off with a dip in the Baltic and a craft beer on the stunning wooden terrace.

Finnair frequently offers competitive fares around $90 roundtrip, though budget hunters should watch for Norwegian flash sales that occasionally drop below $80. Hit town during those magical Nordic summer months when daylight stretches past midnight and locals fill outdoor terraces making up for lost time, or brave February when the city glistens under snow and winter light festivals illuminate the darkness.

Helsinki is more than a sight; it's a realm to experience, explore, and find inspiration within.

  • 🛫 Airlines: Ryanair, Wizz Air, Norwegian (daily direct flights)
  • 📅 Best Time to Visit: April to June 🌸 and September to October 🍂 for perfect temperatures
  • 🏆 Perfect for: Thermal bath lovers ♨️, architecture enthusiasts 🏛️, night owls 🌃

Budapest is that ridiculously photogenic city where your money stretches so far you’ll feel like you’re scamming someone. Hungary’s capital serves dramatic architecture spanning six centuries, thermal baths where you can soak hangover-free after partying until dawn, and food that will make you question why Hungarian cuisine isn’t more famous worldwide.

Széchenyi Thermal Bath isn’t just another tourist trap. This massive yellow palace houses 18 different pools where locals and visitors mix in steaming mineral waters, playing chess while partially submerged regardless of whether it’s snowing or sunny outside. For nightlife that defies categorization, ruin bars transformed abandoned buildings into surreal party venues filled with random flea market furniture, bicycle parts hanging from ceilings, and drinks at prices that make Stockholm seem like highway robbery.

Wizz Air and Ryanair routinely battle for the cheapest fares, often dropping below $110 roundtrip during their frequent sales. The ideal window for visiting falls in early October when summer crowds vanish but temperatures remain perfect for outdoor exploration and terrace dining.

If you crave a destination blending history and modernity, Budapest beckons as your adventurous choice.

  • 🛫 Airlines: Ryanair, Czech Airlines, Norwegian (daily direct flights)
  • 📅 Best Time to Visit: April to May 🌸 and September to October 🍂 for mild weather
  • 🏆 Perfect for: Architecture photographers 📸, beer enthusiasts 🍺, history buffs 🏰

Prague is that fairytale city where every corner looks like it belongs on the cover of a fantasy novel. The Czech capital delivers Gothic spires that pierce the sky, beer cheaper than bottled water, and a medieval old town that somehow survived both World Wars with its magic intact.

Charles Bridge isn’t just another tourist crossing. This 14th-century stone bridge lined with baroque statues transforms throughout the day, from misty sunrise moments when you’ll have it almost to yourself to evening hours when local musicians create the perfect soundtrack for your sunset photos. For beer that will ruin your palate for mass-produced lagers forever, Letná Beer Garden offers panoramic city views alongside fresh-poured pilsners that cost barely €2 a glass.

Ryanair consistently offers the best deals with fares occasionally dipping below $130 roundtrip during off-peak months. Dodge the summer tourist hordes and visit during early October when fall foliage adds pops of color to the red-roofed cityscape and temperatures are perfect for all-day exploration.

  • 📅 Best Time to Visit: April to June 🌸 and September to October 🍂 for perfect beach weather
  • 🏆 Perfect for: Beach lovers 🏖️, architecture enthusiasts 🏛️, food explorers 🍽️

Barcelona is that perfect escape when Nordic darkness has you questioning your life choices. This Mediterranean playground delivers beaches within walking distance of world-class architecture, a food scene that keeps Spanish people up at night arguing about the best tapas, and nightlife that doesn’t even start until Stockholm bars are closing.

Sagrada Família isn’t just another European church. Gaudí’s masterpiece looks like it was designed by aliens, with organic columns and rainbow stained glass that will have you staring upward until your neck hurts. For beach vibes without the tourist crush, skip overcrowded Barceloneta and head to Bogatell Beach where locals actually hang out and you can score paella and sangria without paying the tourist tax.

Ryanair and Vueling regularly drop fares below $120 roundtrip when booked 6-8 weeks ahead. May and late September hit that perfect sweet spot when Mediterranean waters are warm enough for swimming but you won’t be fighting for beach space or melting in peak summer heat. Avoid tourist traps in Las Ramblas and instead book accommodation in El Born or Gràcia neighborhoods where you’ll get authentic Barcelona vibes and rooftop terraces for sunset drinks at half the price of beachfront hotels.

Known as one of the cheapest places to fly from Stockholm, Barcelona provides a variety of budget-friendly experiences to enjoy.

12. Stockholm to London ($27–$100 roundtrip)

  • 🛫 Airlines: Ryanair, Norwegian, easyJet (20+ daily direct flights)
  • 📅 Best Time to Visit: May to September 🌞 for outdoor activities, December 🎄 for festive vibes
  • 🏆 Perfect for: Culture vultures 🎭, food scene explorers 🍽️, vintage shoppers 👗

London is that iconic city that somehow lives up to the hype despite being wildly expensive once you land. England’s capital delivers free world-class museums on practically every corner, food from literally every country on earth, and neighborhoods so distinct they feel like different cities connected by an iconic red bus system.

Borough Market isn’t just another food hall. This centuries-old marketplace serves up everything from truffled grilled cheese to authentic Ethiopian injera under Victorian architecture, creating the perfect lunch spot between museum hopping. For views that won’t cost you £30, skip the London Eye and head to Sky Garden, a massive glass-domed garden 35 floors up that offers 360° city views completely free (just book online in advance).

Ryanair routinely drops mind-blowing deals as low as $27 roundtrip (not a typo) when booking their Stansted flights during flash sales. May and June offer ideal exploring conditions with decent weather and slightly thinner tourist crowds before summer holidays hit.

13. Stockholm to Dublin ($58–$140 roundtrip)

  • ✈️ Flight Time: 2 hours 45 minutes
  • 🛫 Airlines: Ryanair, SAS, Norwegian (daily direct flights)
  • 📅 Best Time to Visit: May to September 🌞 for rare Irish sunshine, March 🍀 for St. Patrick’s Day
  • 🏆 Perfect for: Pub enthusiasts 🍻, literary fans 📚, castle explorers 🏰

Dublin is that perfectly compact city where literature, history, and drinking culture blend into an experience that feels authentically Irish without trying too hard. Ireland’s capital delivers pubs where locals actually hang out, literary heritage you can feel in the streets, and day trip potential that lets you experience dramatic coastlines without changing hotels.

Temple Bar is admittedly touristy but still worth experiencing once before escaping to authentic local spots like Kehoe’s where multi-generational Dubliners squeeze into wooden snugs with perfectly poured Guinness that tastes nothing like the export version. For literary vibes without the boring museums, The Long Room at Trinity College houses 200,000 ancient books in an oak-shelved hall that looks straight out of Harry Potter but actually inspired it.

Ryanair dominates this route with their Dublin hub, offering fares as low as $58 roundtrip when booked during their frequent sales. June through August delivers those rare stretches of Irish sunshine when locals flood outdoor spaces and the city’s energy completely transforms.
