Where to Stay

Over the past 8+ years of running this travel blog, I’ve personally reviewed hundreds of hotels, vacation rentals, and glamping stays across more than 69 countries.

From mountaintop cabins in Vermont to cave hotels in Greece and boutique riads in Morocco, I’ve experienced it all. And when I’m not reviewing stays firsthand, I’m working with my small team of trusted content writers and editors to help curate the most unique, photo-worthy, and well-reviewed places to stay worldwide.

This isn’t your average list of chain hotels. Everything featured here has that something special…whether it’s a glass igloo under the Northern Lights, a design-forward A-frame in the woods, or a beachfront villa with a private plunge pool.

What You’ll Find in This Category…

🏡 Handpicked Vacation Rentals

Think cozy log cabins in New England, stylish Airbnbs in Barcelona, and off-grid desert homes in Joshua Tree. Perfect for group trips, romantic escapes, or solo resets.

🏨 Boutique Hotels Worth the Splurge

From wellness resorts in the Swiss Alps to boutique hotels in the heart of Tokyo, I highlight hotels that deliver both comfort and character.

🏕️ Glamping & Nature Escapes

Treehouses, domes, yurts, and beyond. If it’s got epic views and a vibe, you’ll probably find it here. I’m constantly on the hunt for the most Instagrammable off-grid escapes that don’t sacrifice style.

🗺️ Where to Stay Guides by Destination

Need help choosing where to base yourself? My destination-specific guides break down the best neighborhoods, unique accommodations, and pro tips on how to choose the right spot…whether you’re planning a 2-day city break or a month-long adventure.

I found a Bavarian town that still feels local… an I found a Bavarian town that still feels local… and it shocked me.

We rented a car from Munich and did a road trip through southern Germany, and Landshut was our first stop. Gorgeous old town, pastel buildings, cobblestone streets, and somehow… almost nobody around. Over the years, I’ve been to over 20 towns and cities across Bavaria, and somehow this one felt super local, while still having so much to offer! Perhaps it was the time of year (fall) that contributed to this experience, but hey, I’ll take it!

I was especially surprised when I went up to Trausnitz Castle and didn’t see a single soul for 15 minutes. This has to be one of the most scenic vantage points of the German countryside & Landshut’s old town. 🏰

My favorite part was grabbing a coffee and pastry on the main street and just people-watching for a while. It felt super local too, with everyone on bikes going about their daily life. I genuinely didn’t hear English the whole time, which is super rare these days. Honestly, felt like Germany 20+ years ago!

If you want a charming, easy Munich day trip that feels like a secret, put Landshut on your list.

Save this for your Bavaria itinerary & comment “DAY TRIP” below and I’ll send you my favorite Munich day trips! 🇩🇪

I loved visiting Foroglio way back in 2021, before I loved visiting Foroglio way back in 2021, before the hype really kicked in. 🇨🇭

My wife and I were the only ones there. Seriously. Just stone lanes, mountain air, and that unreal quiet. Magical!

We road-tripped around Ticino (Switzerland’s Italian-speaking canton) and chased a bunch of stone villages. Foroglio was easily a favorite.

Other spots I loved: Lavertezzo, Sonogno, Corippo, Brontallo, Moghegno, and Bosco Gurin. Had some outstanding food down there…dishes like polenta and risotto, and of course…pizza! 🍕👌

If you’re planning Ticino, save this. Go early or late in the day for that same peaceful vibe. 🏔️🙌

Madeira might be one of my all-time favorite desti Madeira might be one of my all-time favorite destinations. 🇵🇹

I love that you can fly direct from Boston (seasonally) and in under 6 hours, you’re transported to one of the most epic islands on Earth...they don’t call it the Hawaii of Europe for nothing! I’ve been twice (2022 and 2024) and I’d go back tomorrow! 🌊⛰️

What really gets me about Madeira is how wild the variety is for such a small island. One minute it’s warm and coastal with bananas and palm trees, the next it feels moody and alpine, and then you’re up in the clouds with that Jurassic-looking greenery.

If you like road trips, Madeira is elite. The drives are short but dramatic, with tunnels, cliffs, and lookouts that make you pull over every five minutes. I always tell people: rent a car, go slow, and plan fewer stops than you think. You will stop anyway!

Save this for later, and send it to the friend who actually gets those trips out of the group chat 👀✈️

Put Colombia on your 2026 list. 🇨🇴🔥 I fell for it Put Colombia on your 2026 list. 🇨🇴🔥

I fell for it in 2019 with Bogotá + Cartagena. This last winter locked it in: Medellín, then the Santa Marta coast, Palomino Beach, and the Tayrona area.

Colombia just hits different. Rainforest energy, unreal biodiversity, wild beaches, and sunshine that makes every day feel like a reset 🙌 Plus, it’s super affordable!

And you can do it with comfort, too. Modern stays, clean spaces, healthy food, and slow mornings that are honestly so good for clarity and healthy habits…great way to start 2026!

If you want a trip that’s adventure mixed with relaxation, this is it. Colombia is calling! 🌊☀️

Welcome to Norway 🇳🇴💦 A couple of years ago we to Welcome to Norway 🇳🇴💦

A couple of years ago we took the dreamiest road trip from Bergen into fjord country and I still think about it all the time.

First, we spent a couple of nights in Bergen, Norway’s second largest city & the gateway to the fjords. From there, we rented a car and drove through Voss and the Hardanger region, chasing waterfalls and pulling over for every lake that looked like glass. Then we rolled into Flåm and Aurland and got that first proper “wow” moment on the Aurlandsfjord.

This is the KING of fjords zone: the Sognefjord system, with epic views over Aurlandsfjord (that famous Stegastein platform is 650m above the water), and the dramatic fjord arms like Nærøyfjord.

From there it was full postcard mode with tiny villages, steep cliffs, and the most serene roads that were shockingly quiet…even in summer! (it was pretty cold out though 🥶)

And yes, we stopped at the iconic black stave church at Borgund. It somehow looks even cooler in real life! ⛪️

Norway is pricey, but for this kind of scenery, it was 100% worth it. The country really has some of the prettiest fjords, lakes, waterfalls…all in one easy drive!

Comment ‘NORWAY’ and I’ll share my route and map 🇳🇴

The fastest way to have fun in El Salvador: find t The fastest way to have fun in El Salvador: find the Rainbow Slide 🌈🛝

I loved El Salvador for the Ruta de las Flores, beach days around El Tunco and the La Libertad coast, volcano hikes, and ripping a motorbike around because the country is unreal. But something about doing the rainbow slide felt like being a kid again…pure fun!

Where it is: Picnic Steak House (the rainbow slide is inside the restaurant). It’s about 20 minutes from San Salvador by car depending on traffic. The slide is around $5 per ride…I did it a few times haha.

Save this for your El Salvador list and send it to the friend who would go first 🤟🏎️

This is not Bali. But it’s close enough that you c This is not Bali. But it’s close enough that you can turn it into an easy side trip…

Welcome to Nusa Penida, where the cliffs are dramatic and the days move slower. Just 40 minutes from Bali, this island feels wilder, quieter, and incredibly magical. Especially at sunrise! 🌅

The star of the show is Diamond Beach, a slice of coastline that looks like it was designed for daydreaming! The photos honestly do not prepare you for the scale of it! The water is incredibly colorful & the cliffs feel endless! I can definitely see why it’s a contender for one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. 🏝️

I spent a couple days exploring and I didn’t want to leave! Definitely worthy of a spot on your Indonesia and Southeast Asia bucket list! 🇮🇩

Save this for later, then send it to your +1.
Because this is the kind of place you definitely don’t do solo!! 🏖️🌊

Road tripping Romania (especially Transylvania) is unreal! Castles, wild mountains, medieval towns, and cities that feel lived-in, not touristy. I can’t believe more people aren’t going to Romania!

Some highlights for me: Brasov’s old town, Sibiu’s storybook streets, Sighisoara’s medieval walls, and Cluj-Napoca’s cafe scene. The Transfagarasan drive is next-level, and Peles Castle is pure fairytale. Bran Castle is worth it for the vibes. And Corvin Castle is absolutely magnificent from the outside (but not a whole lot to see on the inside haha).

We rented a car in Vienna and drove through Hungary into Romania, and the whole route felt like an adventure. Add in cozy guesthouses, hearty meals, and prices that honestly felt too good for Europe!

If you want a Europe trip that still feels like a hidden gem, save this and send it to your travel buddy. Romania belongs on your 2026 bucket list!
