1. 🇹🇷 Turkish Airlines
- 🏠 Hub: Istanbul Airport (IST)
- 💺 Cabin Options: Economy, Business
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: Miles&Smiles – part of Star Alliance
- ☕ Perks: Exceptional catering, cultural connections, value pricing
- 🧠 Pro Tip: Book the “stopover program” to spend 1-3 days in Istanbul at no extra airfare cost. You’ll get free hotel accommodations for eligible connections.
Turkish Airlines has quietly become the smartest way to reach Ghana, connecting Accra with practically everywhere through their massive Istanbul hub. While Emirates and British Airways get more attention, Turkish has won over experienced travelers with a combination of great service, reasonable prices, and a route network that makes getting to West Africa surprisingly easy.
The food alone is worth booking Turkish. We’re talking actual chefs preparing meals you’ll genuinely look forward to eating, not just tolerating. Economy passengers even get multi-course meals with proper cutlery and regional dishes that remind you you’re flying a Turkish carrier, not just another generic airline. Business Class kicks things up another level with “Flying Chefs” in traditional white hats preparing dishes that could be served in nice restaurants.
The aircraft flying this route tend to be newer widebodies. Think quieter cabins, better air circulation, and a noticeable upgrade in seat comfort. Passengers can unwind with a wide selection of entertainment that includes both Turkish and African content, and you’ll likely be offered Turkish coffee before you land.
The smartest move is taking advantage of their stopover program to spend a couple days exploring Istanbul on your way to Ghana. They’ll give you a free hotel stay (1-2 nights depending on your fare), turning what could be a boring layover into a bonus mini-vacation.

2. 🇬🇧 British Airways
- 🏠 Hub: London Heathrow (LHR), London Gatwick (LGW)
- 💺 Cabin Options: Economy, Premium Economy (World Traveller Plus), Business (Club World), First
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: Executive Club (Avios) – part of Oneworld

- 🧠 Pro Tip: Book the newer A350-1000 aircraft to Accra when available. These feature the Club Suite business class with closing doors for privacy, a massive upgrade from their older business seats.
British Airways has been flying the London-Accra route longer than most. This isn’t just another city on their map, it’s a well-established connection that runs daily, even when other airlines scale back seasonally. That consistency matters when you’re planning a trip around family, business, or important dates.
The flight timing works well for both ends. Whether you’re starting in North America or Europe, it’s easy to connect through Heathrow with a manageable layover and no terminal chaos. And if you want to turn the journey into a two-in-one trip, adding a stopover in London is simple and often affordable.
Cabins on this route have seen some serious upgrades. If you land one of the A350 flights, you’ll get the Club Suite in Business Class, which is a far cry from the older Club World seats. It’s a full-flat bed with privacy doors, better storage, and a much more modern feel. Premium Economy also gives you extra width, deeper recline, and upgraded meals that make the price bump worth it.
Frequent flyers will find real value in the Executive Club program, especially on off-peak dates. The best part? Families can even pool their Avios through a household account to stretch redemptions further.

3. 🇳🇱 KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
- 🏠 Hub: Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS)
- 💺 Cabin Options: Economy, Premium Economy, World Business Class
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: Flying Blue – part of SkyTeam
- ☕ Perks: Reliable Amsterdam connections, colonial history ties, sustainable focus
- 🧠 Pro Tip: Book the 787-10 Dreamliners for the best World Business Class experience. These newer aircraft feature improved seats with direct aisle access plus better cabin pressure that reduces jet lag significantly.
KLM knows the Accra route inside and out. Their long-running service to Ghana pairs well with their smooth operations through Amsterdam, making them a favorite for travelers looking for consistency and ease. The connection at Schiphol is one of Europe’s most efficient, with thoughtful design that keeps walking distances short and transfer times reasonable.
✈️ How I Fly for a Fraction of the Price (Even Business Class)
Airfare keeps climbing, but I almost never pay full price. Going.com emails me roundtrips to Europe for under $350. With Elite, you’ll even see business class to Europe for ~$1,700 (deals you won’t find on Google Flights).
Planning a big trip? Elite members save up to $2,000 on a single international business-class ticket. I’ve seen nonstop biz to Scotland for $1,250.
👉 Try Going Elite free for 14 days. Cancel anytime, and use code JON25 for 25% off.
Just want the cheap economy deals? Start free in 10 seconds, no credit card required.
It’s the best money-saving tool I’ve used in 10+ years of travel.
👉 Try Going Elite free →The flight itself is where KLM starts to shine. Their Dreamliners feel like a genuine upgrade, even in Economy. The improved cabin pressure and humidity leave you feeling fresher on arrival, and the windows are huge enough to give you that perfect glimpse of Ghana or the sunrise over Europe. In World Business Class, you’ll get a full-flat bed, direct aisle access, and that classic Dutch design that feels both cozy and modern.
What separates KLM from other European carriers is their genuine commitment to sustainability, not just empty marketing. Their focus on reducing single-use plastics, fuel-efficient aircraft, and carbon offset programs speaks to environmentally-conscious travelers.
Even little touches feel intentional. From reusable cutlery and smart waste reduction to their charming Delft Blue houses gifted to Business Class passengers, KLM blends function with personality. Here, it’s not just about getting from point A to B—it’s about traveling with care and a bit of style.

4. 🇪🇹 Ethiopian Airlines
- 🏠 Hub: Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD)
- 💺 Cabin Options: Economy, Cloud Nine (Business)
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: ShebaMiles – part of Star Alliance
- ☕ Perks: Pan-African network, cultural connection, competitive pricing
- 🧠 Pro Tip: Book the fifth freedom flight from Washington D.C. to Accra for a direct service operated by Africa’s largest airline – often priced lower than American carriers.
Flying to Ghana with Ethiopian Airlines feels like stepping into an African experience from the moment you board. As the continent’s largest and most respected carrier, they offer something many others can’t: familiarity with West African culture, food, and travel styles. That cultural connection makes a big difference when you’re traveling long-haul.
The in-flight experience greatly reflects that regional understanding. Expect African-inspired meals (yes, injera is sometimes on the menu), a multilingual crew that’s used to welcoming Ghanaian travelers, and entertainment with African movies and music you won’t find on most other airlines. It’s a pretty refreshing change from the standard one-size-fits-all approach.
Fleet upgrades have also been a game changer here. Their long-haul routes now feature modern Boeing 787s and Airbus A350s, with quiet cabins, larger windows, and better air quality. Business Class, called Cloud Nine, offers lie-flat seats and a uniquely warm service style. In Economy, you’ll even notice generous legroom and seats designed for comfort on longer flights.
Add in their excellent route coverage across Africa and you’ve got a smart choice for travelers continuing beyond Ghana. Whether you’re heading straight to Accra or planning a multi-country trip, Ethiopian gives you a smooth, culturally grounded, and well-priced path into West Africa.

- 💺 Cabin Options: Economy, Premium Economy (Excellence), Business (Qsuite), First
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: Privilege Club (Avios) – part of Oneworld
- ☕ Perks: Award-winning service, luxury facilities, Qatar stopover
- 🧠 Pro Tip: Use Avios (transferable from Chase and Amex) to book Qatar award flights to Accra. Redemption rates through Doha are often cheaper than booking the same route on partner airlines.
Qatar Airways adds a layer of polish to the journey between Ghana and the rest of the world. The route through Doha isn’t just efficient, it feels elevated. In fact, their flights to Accra often use newer aircraft with upgraded cabins, turning a long-haul leg into a surprisingly refined part of your trip.
Doha’s Hamad International Airport makes connections feel like a break rather than a chore. From spa services and sleeping rooms in the lounge to a massive indoor rainforest and art installations, the airport itself is a travel experience. For Business Class travelers, the Al Mourjan Lounge is one of the best in the world, offering proper dining, quiet zones, and even showers for mid-journey resets.
Onboard, the Qsuite is where Qatar really sets itself apart. This enclosed Business Class seat transforms into a bed, a private office, or even a shared space for couples or families traveling together. Even if you’re flying Economy, you’ll still get great service, generous legroom, and meals that put most competitors to shame. Worried about being bored? The inflight entertainment is thoughtfully curated, with options in Arabic, African languages, and a wide range of international content.
The Privilege Club loyalty program ties into the Avios network, so you can earn and redeem points with partners like British Airways and Iberia.

- 💺 Cabin Options: Economy, Premium Plus, Polaris Business
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: MileagePlus – part of Star Alliance
- ☕ Perks: Most US connections to Ghana, Star Alliance partners, West African focus
- 🧠 Pro Tip: United’s IAD-ACC nonstop runs five times a week on 787 Dreamliners. If you’re connecting from elsewhere in the US, book through to Accra on one ticket so your bags check all the way through.
United offers the most direct US connections to Ghana, making them the go-to choice for Americans heading to West Africa. The Washington D.C. to Accra route provides a straight shot from the East Coast without requiring connections through Europe or the Middle East, saving both time and potential hassle.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner flying this route makes a huge difference in comfort. Expect better cabin pressure, improved air quality, and larger windows. The Polaris Business Class on these planes features fully-flat beds with direct aisle access, while Premium Plus offers a substantial upgrade from Regular Economy with wider seats and enhanced dining.
One of United’s biggest strengths on this route is its integration with Star Alliance partners, including Ethiopian Airlines. This allows for easier onward travel across West Africa with coordinated schedules and one-ticket convenience. Whether you’re visiting just Ghana or hopping to nearby countries, United’s network makes it smooth.

7. 🇺🇸 Delta Air Lines
- 🏠 Hub: Atlanta (ATL), New York (JFK), Detroit (DTW), Minneapolis (MSP)
- 💺 Cabin Options: Main Cabin, Comfort+, Premium Select, Delta One (Business)
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: SkyMiles – part of SkyTeam
- ☕ Perks: Atlanta connections, African American heritage links, reliable operations
- 🧠 Pro Tip: Book the JFK route for the best chance of scoring Premium Select cabin. It’s often cheaper than economy on other carriers and includes significantly better seats and service.
Delta offers one of the smoothest ways to reach Ghana from the U.S., thanks to its close partnership with KLM. Most routes connect through Amsterdam, and Delta’s strong coordination with its SkyTeam partner means your bags are checked through, the timing makes sense, and everything generally works the way it should.
The Atlanta hub feels like a natural launch point for Ghana travel, especially given the deep cultural ties between the two regions. Onboard the Delta-operated leg, you’ll often fly on well-maintained A330s or 767s, before switching to KLM for the final push to Accra. The transition is seamless and far less chaotic than navigating multiple airlines from different alliances.
Delta’s reputation for reliability also adds peace of mind. They consistently rank high in on-time performance, and when disruptions happen, their rebooking system is one of the best. For U.S. travelers who want a dependable, well-orchestrated journey to West Africa, Delta delivers a reliable path with fewer surprises along the way.
One thing I appreciate about Delta for Africa routes is the SkyMiles program. Award availability to Accra is better than you’d expect, especially during the shoulder season (April-May and September-October), and you can transfer points from American Express to top up your balance. Delta also gives all passengers two free checked bags on US-Africa routes.

8. 🇦🇪 Emirates
- 🏠 Hub: Dubai International Airport (DXB)
- 💺 Cabin Options: Economy, Premium Economy (select routes), Business, First
- 🎯 Loyalty Program: Skywards – independent (partners with JetBlue, Alaska)
- ☕ Perks: Dubai stopover options, luxury facilities, connecting Asia/Africa
- 🧠 Pro Tip: Emirates runs daily Dubai-Accra service year-round on Boeing 777s. Fares drop significantly in September and October, which is the sweet spot for both price and weather in Ghana.
Emirates connects Ghana to Asia, Australia, and beyond through its ultra-sleek Dubai hub, offering a premium experience that’s rare on West African routes. Whether you’re flying from Southeast Asia, the U.S., or the Middle East, the airline’s schedule and global network make reaching Accra surprisingly smooth.
What really elevates the journey is how Emirates turns layovers into part of the vacation. Shorter connections in Dubai can include lounge access, hotel day-use packages, or even time by the airport pool if you’re flying premium. For those with longer stopovers, their Dubai Connect program offers a complimentary hotel stay and ground transport, which is perfect for a quick desert-city break en route to Ghana.
Onboard, Emirates keeps its high standards consistent. Business and First Class passengers enjoy lie-flat beds, fine dining, and curated wine lists, while even Economy offers generous legroom, full meal service, and one of the best in-flight entertainment systems anywhere.
Skywards members benefit from flexible redemptions, family pooling, and no mile expiration. And for premium flyers, the chauffeur service at both ends makes the airport experience seamless.

The link between these two regions runs deeper than convenience. In fact, it reflects long-standing historical and cultural ties that still shape the traveler experience today.
Flights to Accra are often served by the airline’s modern A350s, which are a noticeable upgrade from older models. In Business, you’ll find fully flat beds with sliding doors and thoughtful design touches, while Premium Economy delivers real benefits like wider seats, extra legroom, and a quieter cabin. Even in Economy, the meals come with actual menus, wine pairings, and French-style presentation that set them apart from most long-haul options.
Layovers in Paris aren’t just tolerated, they’re encouraged. Through their stopover program, Air France offers discounted hotel packages and ground transport, turning a connection into a cultural bonus. Spend a day exploring the City of Light before continuing to West Africa.
