The parking lot is small, with extra street parking nearby. If you’re staying across the river, DKD has a second location on Market Street in New Albany, Indiana. Both locations close on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day, which is good to know for holiday trips in late 2026.

GattiTown Lexington is my top pick on this list for families with kids. This Mr. Gatti’s Pizza fun center on Nicholasville Road covers 30,000 square feet, with more than 150 video and redemption games, bumper cars, a full-size carousel, a drop ride, VR rides, and an indoor playground. It’s alcohol-free and smoke-free, which parents appreciate after a long day of sightseeing.

The all-you-can-eat Marketplace Buffet includes pizza, pasta, breadsticks, a salad bar, dessert, and drinks. Gatti’s hand-rolls its dough each morning and tops pizzas with smoked provolone and a sauce made with 16 herbs and spices. Come for the games and the kids’ fun, and keep food expectations casual, since buffet reviews are mixed.

The buffet is open 11am to 8pm Sunday through Thursday and until 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and the game room stays open an hour later. I’d visit on a Wednesday, when games are half price all day. Weekend afternoons fill with birthday parties, and I prefer a weeknight visit.

GattiTown is on Nicholasville Road, a short drive from the University of Kentucky campus and Fayette Mall. School groups and sports teams get perks, with bus drivers eating free and head coaches eating free when the whole team comes. I’d add it to a rainy-day plan for a fall 2026 or spring 2027 trip, because everything is indoors.

14. Riverside Korean Restaurant

Riverside Korean Restaurant has served Korean food in downtown Covington since 2001, just across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. Chef Bruce Kim and his wife, Yujin, own and run it, and Bruce made every sauce, soup, and marinade to pass his mother’s taste test. Since 2010, locals have repeatedly voted it the top Korean restaurant in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

You can sit at a regular table or at one of the traditional Korean-style floor tables, which I recommend for groups. My go-to is the dol sot bi bim bab, rice cooked in a hot stone bowl until the bottom turns crispy, then topped with vegetables, a sunny-side-up egg, and beef, chicken, or tofu. For two people, the hot pot dinners are made for sharing, and dinner specials come with six banchan side dishes.

Lunch is Tuesday through Friday from 11am to 2:30pm, and dinner starts at 5pm on weeknights and 3pm on weekends. It’s closed on Mondays, and I’d call (859) 291-1484 to reserve, because tables fill quickly. The menu covers vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free diners, plus kids’ meals.

After dinner, I like the 12-minute walk to the Roebling Suspension Bridge for views of the Cincinnati skyline. MainStrasse Village is about 15 minutes away on foot if you want a drink afterward. Madison Avenue is only a few minutes off I-71/75, which makes this an easy stop on a Northern Kentucky road trip.

15. Flamingo Row

Flamingo Row is Paducah’s tropical escape, with aquamarine vaulted ceilings, hand-painted details, and flamingo decor throughout the dining room. This locally owned restaurant sits on Perkins Creek Drive, away from downtown and close to I-24. The menu mixes Caribbean flavors with American comfort food, which helps groups agree on one spot.

I order the coconut shrimp, jumbo and hand-battered, served with honey-horseradish sauce and fries. Jerk chicken fans should get the two grilled jerk-seasoned breasts over jumble rice, a spicy mix with sausage, ham, bacon, shrimp, and chicken. The Hulaboola burgers use 9 ounces of hand-cut Angus beef, and a Fillymingo, the house hand-stuffed bread, makes a fun starter to share.

Flamingo Row is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 8pm and closed Sundays and Mondays. I’d join the online waitlist on its website before leaving your hotel, and the staff will text you when your table is ready. The full bar mixes tropical cocktails, and there’s a kids’ menu for younger diners.

Paducah fills up during AQS QuiltWeek, April 21–24, 2027, when quilters arrive from around the world. I’d plan an early lunch that week, because waits get long across town. The National Quilt Museum downtown is about 10 minutes away by car, which makes an easy pairing with lunch here.

16. Holy Grale

Holy Grale pours beer inside a former Unitarian church built in 1905 on Bardstown Road in the Original Highlands. Owners Lori Beck and Tyler Trotter opened it in 2010 after trips to Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany, and the old chapel keeps its arched windows, dark wood, and hanging lanterns. The bar sits where the organ once stood, and the tap list rotates more than 20 hand-picked beers from around the world.

Belgian styles are the focus, and the lambic and kriek selection is one of my favorites in Kentucky. Tell your server which flavors you like, and they’ll point you to a pour. On Thursdays, the bar serves Kölsch Cologne-style in small glasses and marks your coaster with each round.

The seasonal food menu uses local ingredients and changes often, and the kitchen closes an hour before the bar. Reserve the upstairs dining room, called Heaven, on OpenTable for groups of up to 16, while the first-floor bar and the outdoor gralegarten are walk-in only. Doors open at 5pm on weekdays and 2pm on weekends.

The same team runs Bar Grale, a wine bar and bottle shop next door that opened in 2024, and gralehaus around the corner on Baxter Avenue. I like starting with a beer in the gralegarten on a fall evening, then moving next door for a glass of wine. Dogs aren’t allowed in the beer garden, but they’re welcome at the front of Bar Grale when seats are free.

17. Patti’s 1880’s Settlement

Patti’s 1880’s Settlement started in 1977 as Hamburger Patti’s Ice Cream Parlor, a 20-seat stand opened by Bill and Patti Tullar in Grand Rivers. It has since grown into a themed village between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, with a restaurant, eight boutique shops, gardens, mini golf, and lodging. Servers dress in 1880s attire, and they sing to couples celebrating an anniversary.

The signature dish is the 2-inch pork chop, a 16-ounce center cut charbroiled over an open flame with Patti’s house seasoning. Every meal starts with bread baked in a flower pot and house-made strawberry butter, an idea Patti said came to her in a dream. For dessert, I split a slice of mile-high meringue pie or the Boatsinker, a rich chocolate pie.

The restaurant is open daily from 11am to 8pm, with lunch until 4pm and dinner after that. I’d reserve for weekends and holidays, because tables fill quickly. Before leaving, pick up a jar of strawberry butter and a loaf of bread at the Yesterday’s Once More shop.

The holidays are Patti’s busiest season, with around 75,000 visitors in December for the lights, falling snow effects, and visits with Santa. If you’re visiting in December 2026, I’d go on a weekday and book well ahead. Live music plays on Friday and Saturday nights in spring and summer, a good pairing with a day on Kentucky Lake in 2027.

18. The Melting Pot

The Melting Pot on Hurstbourne Parkway is Kentucky’s only location of the fondue chain, since the Lexington restaurant closed in 2015. Dinner here is hands-on, with a pot at your table and courses you cook and dip yourself. It’s my go-to in Louisville for a slow, playful date night or a birthday with friends.

The classic four-course experience covers cheese fondue, salad, an entrée, and chocolate fondue. I start with the Wisconsin Cheddar, made with aged cheddar, Emmenthaler, and Sam Adams Boston Lager, then cook filet mignon, shrimp, or lobster tail at the table. Save room for dessert, because The Original milk chocolate fondue is the reason I come back.

Plan on about two hours for a full four-course meal, and book ahead for Friday and Saturday nights. For a lighter night, the MeltOut! skips the entrée and pairs a salad with cheese and chocolate courses. There are vegan and kids’ menus, and the kitchen can make several fondues gluten-free.

The restaurant opens at 5pm on weekdays and at noon on weekends for fondue lunch. Through November 22, 2026, the seasonal fall menu adds Forever Fondue, an endless-entrée option. Melting Pot has said it’s looking for a new Lexington franchise owner, but for now Louisville is the only choice in the state.

19. Bard’s Burgers & Chili

Bard’s Burgers & Chili is a classic burger dive in Covington’s Latonia neighborhood, with booths and checkered tablecloths. Owner Jordan Stephenson reopened it in 2015, added Cincinnati-style chili to the name, and landed it on Food Network’s Ginormous Food the next year. The City of Covington honored it with a 2025 Authenti-CITY award.

I order the Double Bard Burger with a side of fried Wisconsin cheese curds. Chili fans should try a coney topped with the owner’s house Cincinnati chili, made with Wagyu beef. For the full Northern Kentucky experience, the Cincinnasty stacks six cheesy patties with bacon, goetta, grilled onions, and chili.

The Bardzilla Challenge is the legend here, with 11 third-pound patties, 22 slices of cheese, and two pounds of fries to finish in one hour. Winners eat free, get a t-shirt, and earn a spot on the Wall of Fame. Very few people have beaten it, and I’m happy watching from the next booth.

Bard’s is closed Sundays and Mondays, opens at 3pm on Tuesdays, and closes at 7pm on Saturdays. Call (859) 866-6017 for carryout, and park in the free lot across the street. It’s about 10 minutes south of downtown Covington, and I’d pair it with Riverside Korean (#14) on a Northern Kentucky day.

20. Jailhouse Pizza

Jailhouse Pizza fills the old Meade County Jail, a 1906 brick building on Main Street that overlooks the Ohio River. You can eat at tables inside the original cells on both floors, and I’d ask for one when you call ahead. Upstairs, a trapdoor that some say was part of a gallows sits under Plexiglass, and ghost hunters still visit because of haunting rumors.

The specialty pizzas have jail-themed names, and the Prisoner’s Last Request is a crowd favorite. I also like the Electric Chair, with the Jailer’s Bread as a starter to share. Garlic Parmesan wings round out the order, and there’s a kids’ menu for families.

Jailhouse Pizza is closed Mondays, opens at 4pm Tuesday through Thursday, and serves lunch from 11am on Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday hours are noon to 8pm. Recent reviews mention slower service on busy nights, and I’d plan a relaxed evening and call (270) 422-4660 before driving in.

Brandenburg is about 45 minutes southwest of Louisville, which makes this an easy half-day trip. After dinner, walk the short trail to Buttermilk Falls nearby, or cross Main Street to Main Street Creamery and Cafe for ice cream. I’d time the drive for a clear afternoon and grab a window seat for views of the river.
