#1 tip for finding cheap flights from Mexico City

Looking for cheap places to fly from Mexico City? Before jumping into all the coolest cities and airports to fly into, I want to share a quick tip to save money on airfare.

For the past 3 years, I’ve used Scott’s Cheap Flights (now called Going) to find cheap flight deals. It’s free and super easy to use. All you have to do is enter in your home airport (i.e. NLU) and where you want to go, and they’ll send you mistake fares and other ridiculously cheap flight deals.

In 2022 alone, I saved thousands of dollars thanks to their email alerts. This includes most recently, a $655 roundtrip fare from Mexico City to London. On average, I save about $400 roundtrip on selected flight routes. So, I’m a huge fan and couldn’t recommend them more!

If you’re a frequent flier, consider getting their premium version. It costs $49 per year, but it will easily save you hundreds (or thousands) of dollars if you fly just 1-2 times. I recommend signing up for the free trial (which you can cancel at any time) to test it out for yourself. And if you like it, use my coupon code JON20 to save 20%!

Other considerations when finding cheap places to fly from Mexico City

To find the cheapest places to fly from Mexico City, I focused on major airports in North America, Central America, and South America. Sure, you can occasionally find flight deals to other continents. However, more often than not, these destinations will have the most affordable fares and are the most accessible from Mexico City.

Note that flight prices from Mexico City can fluctuate significantly throughout the year. For instance, a flight to Cancun might be pricier during the holiday season than in the off-peak months. If you’re eyeing a South American adventure, consider traveling during their off-season, which typically spans from May to August. While the cost of a roundtrip fare might vary, the cheap destinations from Mexico City should remain consistent, no matter when you decide to take off.

For the purposes of this article, I excluded nearby destinations from this list. This includes cities like Puebla, Toluca, Querétaro, and Morelia, which often have affordable flight deals from Mexico City but are within driving distance. Instead, I centered my attention on cheap flights from Mexico to diverse locations globally.

From domestic to international journeys, here are the 13 cheapest places to fly from Mexico City in 2023.

Looking to save BIG on airfare? I recommend signing up for Dollar Flight Club. Thanks to DFC, I’ve saved $5,000+ on travel in 2024…so I couldn’t recommend it more!

For the specific destinations mentioned earlier in our discussion, there are indeed direct flights available from Mexico City, making travel convenient for passengers.

Do flight prices vary significantly throughout the year?

Absolutely, flight prices can vary significantly throughout the year. Factors influencing these variations include peak travel seasons (like holidays and school vacations), major events or festivals in the destination city, and general demand and supply dynamics. For instance, destinations with popular events or festivals might see a spike in flight prices during that period. Conversely, during off-peak seasons or times when there’s less tourist activity, airlines might offer promotions or reduced fares to encourage travel. It’s always a good idea to monitor flight prices and trends for your desired route to get a sense of the best times to book.

Which airport in Mexico City serves most of these cheap flights?

Round-trip flights are often more economical than booking two separate one-way tickets, but it’s always good to compare before finalizing. Traditionally, round-trip flights were often cheaper than booking two one-way flights, as airlines offered discounts to passengers booking return tickets. However, in recent years, with the rise of low-cost carriers and more flexible booking options, this isn’t always the case. It can sometimes be cheaper, or comparably priced, to book one-way flights, especially if you’re considering flying back with a different airline or from a different airport. This allows ample time for check-in, security checks, and any other potential delays. During peak travel times or busy holiday seasons, consider adding an extra buffer to this time to account for longer queues and potential unforeseen delays.

Are there any nearby destinations not included in the list due to their proximity to Mexico City?
