START WITH THE DECISION IN FRONT OF YOU

Lower fees, a simpler wallet
or your next trip?

You choose the goal. The questions adapt, and your free result comes before the optional deeper assessment.

“Are my cards worth their fees?”
Start with annual fees and credits you use without changing your normal spending. Then review individual cards and benefits.
“I want fewer things to manage.”
Tell us which cards you need to keep and how much complexity you want. A fee review skips the trip questions.
“I have a trip in mind.”
Add airports, timing, travelers and existing points. Your next steps reflect those constraints, without assuming award seats are available.

See the fee hurdle

Separate fees from credits you naturally use. An advertised perk is not automatically money in your pocket.

Put spending in context

Compare ordinary spending with a clearly labeled benchmark. Approximate figures are fine; unknowns stay visible.

Choose a useful next step

Understand what to check next, whether your goal is lower fees, fewer cards or a particular trip. A new card is optional.

LOOK INSIDE A COMPLETE PLAN · FICTIONAL EXAMPLE

Sometimes the best travel card
is already in your wallet.

A family of four wants to visit Lisbon. We compare their current setup, a simpler option and a travel-focused pair, then build a plan around their booking deadline.

The result: use an existing card for this trip. The more complicated setup adds only $59 a year over the simpler one after the same old fee is resolved.

WHAT THE EXAMPLE MAKES CLEAR

  • Which card to use for each spending category
  • Which fees remain until you actually change them
  • Why a bonus arriving too late cannot fund this trip
  • When paying for a plan would not be worth it

Invented card terms, figures and trip prices. This demonstrates the method, not a real offer or bookable trip.

THE GLOBAL VIEWPOINT APPROACH

A travel goal first.
The arithmetic in the open.

Created by Jon Miksis, founder of Global Viewpoint and a travel writer since 2017.

Rewards should support the trip you want and the spending you already planned. This tool shows its assumptions, separates existing points from new earnings and leaves room for the answer “keep what you have.”

What you can inspect

How fees and credits are counted. What the spending benchmark means. Why unknowns are not zero. Where current terms and availability still need checking.

Before you start

What do I need to have ready?

A rough monthly spending total, your annual card fees and the credits you actually use are enough to get started. You can leave figures unknown. The optional deeper assessment asks about individual cards, points and travel plans.

Do I need to open a new card?

No. You can focus entirely on your current wallet. If you carry a balance or cannot pay for planned purchases without borrowing, the free guidance puts those needs before pursuing rewards.

Will I get a card recommendation or a booking?

This check gives you calculations and next steps from your answers. It does not recommend specific new cards or search live award availability. The complete example uses fictional products to show what a finished plan should resolve.

How is this different from a points-value calculator?

You do not need to assign a cash value to each point. Start with fees and spending; go deeper to keep balances attached to their program and owner. The check does not assume that different points can be combined, transferred or used for a particular booking.

Where do my answers go?

They stay in this browser. No email, bank login or payment is needed. Saving a draft on this device is optional and off by default; unsaved answers are lost when you close or reload the tab. Read the storage details.
